Anyone ever reasd this besides me? It's by John "Lofty" Wiseman, and it's pretty interesting, even though it's basically a reference book.

I've read a few survival handbooks. What does this one offer that others don't?

I've got a copy, it's pretty good. I've probably read through it at least three times.

I'm not sure that it offers anything that others do not, as it is the only survival guide I own to date, but i did really enjoy it. It covers just about every conceivable occurrence in the wild; or at least that I can think of, and it covers all types of terrain.

So yeah, I just may pick up another survival guide soon, so i can compare 'em.

Just purchased the Collins Gem edition. 3.25" x 4.75" x 1.8"

It's fucking TINY! All the information is condensed into a book the size of a thick wallet.

The diagrams are quite detailed as well. The only thing I don't like is that I feel some areas should have gone into more depth.

It's a great little book. It even tells you what the weed killer is that the mythbusters used to made exploding pants/

The wild food edibility test that many of these military survival guides should be taken with a pinch of salt.
For instance, you could not screen for poison hemlock using this.

You would have to be an idiot to not know how to survive in a mild to hot climate.

This excludes the desert and very snowy places. :)

The best source for that kind of info would be the natives to that land.

You get a knife with it and a length of piano wire to fashion small-game traps with.

I've got the pocket-size version. Good book, though I haven't looked at it for like 3 or 4 years.

OP: yeah, i bought this book on a whim once
it was really interesting
plus it tells you how to make some neat snares, a few of which i've tried myself

The table of contents I posted from is mini version of the book. The original book may have a different layout.

it's exactly the same content as my full sized one
you got yourself a keeper there.

Had it as my toilet reading for years.

You can re-read those pages 1000 times and never be an expert.

Own it. It is great.

Although I don't know how survival techniques could have changed so much for him to come up with a new version in '06 and now one coming out in '09.

When I was a kid this book and to a lesser extent the similar urban survival handbook were my bibles! Iv read it so many times its literally fallen to pieces.

Most of the pictures in it seem very close or identical to the ones in the FM 21-76 Survival manual, as well as most of the acronyms and guides, except it doesn't include stuff like cover and concealment, evasion and anti-human traps and weapons, where the survival manual does.

tordek battlehammer

They look nothing like, iv only skimmed the manual but the SAS handbook seems to have a lot more detail as well as colour pictures.

Ozusko-Karlovacko-Lasko

lol especially since human trapping is less "trapping" and more "murder".

Never read the FM 21-76 before though, so I dunno...

Has anyone read the SAS helicopter evasion guide, or know where to get a copy of it?
