***this is in australia)
so im thinking of getting a sponsorship from the australian defence force.
ie. they pay for my tuition for university (about 100k), and they pay me an average of 30k a year to study.
however, after i graduate, i am under contract and have to work for them for 6 years, with about 50k salary.
which is pretty good.
if i were to just get hecs, i would only have about 200k, (whereas the adf will get me about 400k). (in 11 years)
so what are the perks of each?
i imagine it'll be similar. (the US, and Australia) in terms of the differences and similarities between the army, navy, and airforce
the pay is the same.
btw, i will be a 'legal officer'.
so tell me, what are the perks of each?
i've read up on it.
the food is relatively similar,
im not too fond of the army, i'd rather the navy or the airforce.

Go for it, 50k salary is good, the AUS forces get paid well so I hear. 6 years of experience too for what money can't buy.

I'd do it. Think about it this way: after you graduate and finish with the forces you will have no debt, be in great shape, have killer job experience, and have some savings built up.

:P.
yeah.
but i'd be 28.
and im not sure which law firm would want to hire one that only has legal experience in millitary law and international law..
i was thinking if im not a higher rank, then i'd just join the australian federal police i guess.
but i was hoping if im already an officer (2nd luitenent) (you start of as that if you get in with the degree), or higher
they (the police) would not make me a constable
.
spend a long time at www.defencejobs.gov.au
Your IMPS may be more than 6 years, depending on how you're assisted etc. The lowest paid officer in the defence force makes $55,462. That's a new 2lt without a degree etc. A legal officer would make much more.
You'll be doing similar work in all the services. The air force probably has the most pleasant employment locations though.

ah.
yeah.
i spent almost two whole nights looking through alot of the details.
funny though, because alot of the things are copied and pasted to the other jobs.
ie. the lifestyle and recreation, all of the defence force wings have ' get paid to keep fit', as well as the same menu example.
i think you travel most in the navy..
its hard deciding between the navy & airforce.
Navy legal officers aren't usually posted to ships. Honestly, the army would probably offer the best chance to travel (they have the most overseas deployments).

i don't wanna die in the army.
haha.
i was talking to a few of the 'recruiters'.
one was from the navy; a petty officer who had gone to 17 different countries, whereas the army sargent had only gone to 3.
do you think that the airforce would be able to train me to learn to fly a plane or helicopter?
is it hard to advance through the ranks?
in that when i have proven my leadership/management skills, i won't always be a legal officer, but a more higher ranked officer, used for my leadership instead of the degree?
i was reading the bio on one of the senior chiefs, and one of them had an engineering degree.
