View Full Version : What branch do you reccomend joining in the U.S for me , once I graduate college?
Im going to get a bachelors in Criminal Justice , I should finish by the time im 22. I essentially want to be a detective , but I want some hardcore hands on military training. Ive researched myself but would like to get opinions of people already in or have been in the service. National Guard seem's cool with all the cash the throw at you. Marines looks good but theres not as much. Also since I'll have a degree i'll have start with more rank , havent looked into it that deeply. Basically I want to be trained to learn how to drop people and learn special tactics and all that jazz. I dont want to join up and be assisigned some retarded job. What sugguestions do you guys have for someone who wants some serious training. I would also like to pick my own job , something combat related preverably.

Degree in Criminal justice.
1. Join to work for JAG.
2. Military police.
Join the Army. You will get the job you want BEFORE you commit.
The recruiter's job is to get you to the carreer counselor. Talk with the counselor, what he has to offer and what he has to meet what YOU want.
Once you come to an agreement, it will be written on your contract, make sure everything promised is on that contract.
The Army is the only service that GUARANTEES you in writing. Of course, you have to guarantee that you will pass all level of training.
Don't let him shuck and give you. What is on that contract is what you get.
If he does not have what YOU want, walk out and go home. You should get a call within a week that they found the job you want.
I was a recruiter for 8 years. Believe me, I know what I'm saying.
But hey. You can become an officer and just tell other people what to do.
National guard gets a nice bonus , why is that ?
Should I apply under them or Army ?
I really dont give a shit if they ship me out , I want to do something.

Honestly, you might be better off joining the FBI. In the military (I can only speak for the Air Force), you need to join as another career field, make it to a certain grade, and then apply for a special duty assignment for Air Force Office of Special Investigations. I would imagine it's similar with other branches.
If you go in as an officer, which you should if you are getting a 4 year degree, it's pretty competitive. You can read more about it here (http://www.osi.andrews.af.mil/questions/topic.asp?id=1142). This is only for the Air Force, so you might want to check out the Army and Navy equivalents, as they may be easier to get into.
EDIT: read up about the FBI; I think you have to be 25 years old to be an agent.

Regular Army, go to an Army recruiter.
National Guard, go to your nearest Armory and ask for the recruiter.
You go to training and then return home.
Il you want to go away, join the Regular Army.
Check the local recruiter. They have like 250 different job and you might find something interesting that you never thought existed.
