If you really needed to ask its my wisconsin badgers...kind of funny how it worked out that Camp Randall is going to host arguably the two most important games of the big ten conference season (in relation to the National Championship) on back to back Saturday nights. I'm already really excited since i have tickets to both, and if they pull off wins in both games that will go a long way in terms of BCS standings. Weak as the conference may be in comparison to the SEC, the Southeast is going to beat up on each other yet again this year, boding well for either Penn State or Wisconsin, depending on who wins that game...but God help either school if USC wins out the regular season and one of them remains unscathed also.
Yes, USC is a beast! I am scared for my dogs, especially by a poor performance against south carolina game cocks.

So then it's up with the White and Gold
Down with the Red and the Black
Georgia Tech is out for a victory
We'll drop our battle axe on Georgia's head, CHOP!
When we meet her our team will surely beat her
Down on old Georgia's farm there'll be no sound
When our bow wows rip through the air
When the battle is over Georgia's team will be found
With the Yellow Jackets swarming around.

Haven't visited this forum in a little while...but yes I could. Then again, this always happens, due in large part to a lack of foresight managing the quarterback position. While they pride themselves on smashmouth football, they haven't been anything near a two-dimensional offense since the earlier days of St. Barry Alvarez. Luckily there is hope, they're supposed to have grabbed a sleeper in Jon Budmayr, who is on the ESPN 150. Quick motherfuckin' release, too. So that's how I justify not feeling as pissed off as a lot of people up here...that and tasty delicious beer.

an being the only team undefeated in big east so far i think chances are good of another big east title

Texas will/has played 5 ranked teams this season- a team that was number 1, a team that was number 3, a team that was number 6, a team that was number 6, a team that was number 17. USC and Ohio State could lose every game of the season and still be in the top 25.
What pisses me off most is how teams are rewarded for playing a shitty schedule. Look at Penn State and USC. They play in shitty conferences and are practically guaranteed a BCS bowl appearance or spot in the title game while Big 12 and SEC teams play the best schedules in the NCAA.
I'm just worried about this Saturday up at Texas Tech. I know our offense can score, we just need to be able to stop Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree's passing game. I still like our chances though.

If Texas and Bama win out, that's your national championship. USC and Penn State are guaranteed a BCS bowl appearance by virtue of winning their conferences, and that's the Rose Bowl, a Big Ten/Pac-10 matchup since...1947. If UT, Bama, and PSU all win out, I put the odds at 10:1 PSU gets in to the natty. The XII and the SEC are so strong this year that running the table in those conferences ASSURES a championship game berth.
But a situation like that would cause some BCS controversy, which daddy like.

Yeah, if Texas and Alabama win their conference then that's the title game, but Alabama still has to play at LSU and in the Iron Bowl against Auburn, one of the biggest football rivalry games of all time (even if Auburn sucks this year). Then they have to play in the SEC championship game, so Bama still has a tough road ahead of them.
Even though I like Alabama, I want to see them lose because Texas playing Penn State gives my team (texas) a better chance of bringing another national championship to Austin. :)

Yeah yeah, jump on the bandwagon.
Texas shouldn't drop any more than four spots in the rankings. They played four of the top 12 ranked teams in a row-if they had actually won last night, it would have been the first time in 60 years any team had done this. You might as well had just mailed them the championship trophy.
We lost to one of the best offenses in the country with our leading defensive player out, our leading wide reciever out, and our quarterback coughing up blood halfway through the game AT TECH in the biggest game in their history. And we only lost in the last 1 second.
Fuck it, we should still be number 1 after everything we accomplished. We can still be in the title game too.
Texas is still number 1.

I'll agree with that first statement. I reeeaaally doubt that second one. Even though Penn St. and Ol Joe are great at getting their shit done, I don't see Penn State having as much success as they have been when they face one of the big teams from Big 12 or SEC. You also have to consider that Tech has only beaten 1 top 25 opponent with the rest of their schedule, thus far, being pretty much cupcakes for the other top teams. Alabama has a chance considering how well they're holding up, as well as LSU and Auburn's current state. That would just leave Florida for conference then the big shebang. Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma can't be counted out either.
I made $100 off the Texas vs. Tech game. I wasn't a huge fan of the Raiders (respect them as a football team though), I just didn't like the Longhorns' chances.
By the way, Roll Tide fools. It's nice to be able to say it again.

Oh really? Let's break it down...
1. Alabama.
2. Texas Tech
3. Penn State
4. Texas
Alabama-Has to play AT LSU next week, which will be a very hard game to win. They will also have to win the SEC.
Texas Tech-Probably the most likely to lose in the next 2 weeks. They play against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, Oklahoma being a team that's very angry with Tech (last year Oklahoma still had a shot at being in the national championship until Tech blew them out). Tech plays at OU , where OU will be playing the best they have all season. I just don't see Tech beating three top 10 teams in a row.
Penn State-While I doubt an upset is brewing, Penn State might not get a shot at the championship if Alabama plays extremely well and Texas plays extremely well to finish the season (and if Texas wins the Big 12).
All Texas has to have is two of the teams in front of them lose (barring a team leapfrogs them).
Don't count them out.

True, Florida is looking good. They can control their destiny because they still have a shot at playing against Bama in the SEC, which would leapfrog them to the title.
Sucks that Texas lost so late- I guess beating the number 1 team, number 11 team, and number 7 team doesn't matter if you lose at the end. :(
Everything is still pretty early...

TOP 5 OVERVIEW
-Alabama wins in overtime at LSU, will remain number 1.
-Texas Tech plays against Oklahoma State in Lubbock, just started. I predict an OSU win in Lubbock. :D
-Penn State loses a nailbiter against Iowa due to a last second field goal.
-Texas routs Baylor in Austin to move up in the polls.
-Florida plays Vanderbilt, I expect Florida to rout Vanderbilt and move up in the polls.

bowl projections after today's events:
Natty-Texas Tech vs. Alabama
Rose Bowl- Penn State vs. USC
Fiesta Bowl- Texas vs. Utah
Sugar Bowl- Florida vs. Boise State
Orange Bowl- North Carolina vs. Pittsburgh
Terrible, i know.
My thinking here:
Automatics: BAMA, TT, PSU, USC, UNC, PITT, most likely Utah and EITHER UT or UF (the big XII and sec get another autobid if another team of theirs finishes #3 in the BCS standings, and I project one of those two teams get that spot)
At-larges: only two left, and of course the other team in the UT/UF quandary will get picked here. After that, the only teams eligible to participate are Ohio State and Boise State, due to the two-team limit rule. Because I personally think Boise has a great chance at going undefeated and OSU already is a two-loss team, I give advantage to Boise State. Here's hoping for another statue of liberty play. Or maybe they'll try something new, like a fumblerooski.

Shitty, I know. But the ACC and Big East champions get automatic bids, and there's no way around that. And because of the two-team-per-conference rule, Either Texas Tech, Texas, or Oklahoma is going to be left out of the BCS dance.
I did my research, man. It sounds like you don't know just how terrible the BCS selection rules are: The Orange Bowl must have the ACC champion if possible, so that's locked in as UNC in my book. Then the Fiesta bowl gets the first pick of at-large or Big East champ, or undefeated Utah (as an autobid). They're certainly not going to take Pitt to play Texas. I think they'd take Utah if they finish undefeated, because of possible revenue. Sugar Bowl gets the next selection this year, and I'm sure THEY don't want Pitt to play Florida, that wouldn't be competitive either. The only teams left available for consideration then are probably going to be Ohio State and Boise State, if they remain undefeated. Because a two-loss team doesn't look as good as one that's undefeated and has a history of exciting bowl games, I'm almost certain they would take Boise. Leaving the Orange Bowl, who MUST take Pitt according to the rules.
As I said, I know it looks stupid, but read the rules and selection procedures yourself before you go asking me stupid questions like why two BCS conference champions play each other in a bcs game. Or why a third team from a conference can't get into the BCS. I go to Wisconsin, that situation happened to us the year before last.
DarthVader77
2008-11-10, 01:00
that is fucking stupid. it should be the best teams, not just teams that won in a shitty conference. the acc is so freaking bad this year(as they are pretty much every year) and the big east isnt much better. too bad they dont play a better team and get the shit beat out of them.
i like the idea of an 8 team playoff for the champ. then have the remaining 3 big bowl games with the teams that deserve it. the playoffs go by conferences, but the bowl games dont. i think that would work more efficiently and really show who are the best teams.

But sadly, the stated goal of the BCS is to determine the two best teams, and as a side effect they do not necessarily come up with the best matchups for the rest of the series; they merely award the champions of the largest (and sometimes not even the best) conferences for having good seasons within the conference.

I don't quite follow you...they're certainly getting the rose bowl as a one-loss team, and at the moment there is an undefeated 1-2 combination for the national championship. Also, Ohio State is looking at the Capital One Bowl. If USC could have beat Oregon State, you might have a decent argument, but the Pac-10 is incredibly top-heavy this year and they got caught napping.

they might not even make it to the rose bowl, but idk how oregon st. is doing  but if they do they r gonna play penn st. which they will win. the pac-10 is awful this year. they have no way to move up the ranks because of the strength of the other conferences. if they played alabama, they would destroy them, no doubt about it.

you speak in a lot of generalities, go look up standings and schedule on espn.com if you "don't know how oregon st. is doing."
To the point, if USC doesn't make it to the Rose Bowl, it will be their own fault because they play Stanford, Notre Dame, and UCLA. They can even lose to Notre Dame and it won't matter because that's a non-con game. OSU has to play Cal, Arizona, and Oregon. USC has the overall schedule tiebreaker no matter what, so to tank it USC has to lose one more conference game than OSU does, which is difficult since they play one less conference game than OSU. If USC is as good as you say they are, there is NO reason they shouldn't win out anyway. At UCLA is no excuse if you say they would destroy Alabama.
You present a contradiction, also. You say they have no way to move up the ranks because of the strength of the other conferences. But they brought that upon themselves; In the young season they were ranked #1. They then lost to a team that is by most accounts much worse. But that's something Alabama (or Texas Tech) hasn't done, and they sure play in better conferences. Penn State also lost to probably an equally poor team (albeit in probably a slightly better top-to-bottom conference, but that's a debate for another time), so it actually makes up a decent matchup.
It's called the Granddaddy of them All for a reason, it's the biggest game (in revenue and legend) of the BCS games. I don't see why you're whining when USC had its chance to take care of business early in the year and then blew it against a weak team, when Alabama and Texas Tech have flourished under more difficult scheduling.

wellll looking things over I see no changes in my B(c)S projections after this week, UNC has a hell of an easy schedule left so I still think they'll sneak in despite the loss to Maryland, and the only other moderate change would be the Big East autobid, which I think is a dead heat between Cincy and Pitt. BUT it really doesn't matter because they're both terrible and I see both Utah and Boise State taken ahead of either of those teams, especially if Boise keeps putting up numbers in the high forties.
EDIT: As a mental exercise, I will consider what would happen if Oregon State managed to win out: They would get the Rose Bowl since they hold the tiebreak with USC...This means USC will get added to the at-large teams, and will essentially kick Boise State out of the BCS even if they are undefeated. I'm pretty sure USC would move to the front of the line of the at-larges, so in my previous picks, one would just move Utah down one game in my list, and boot out Boise. Utah must get a bid if it stays in the top 8 of the BCS from here on out, so they're safe if Oregon State pushes USC out of the Pac-10 championship. This is ALL predicated on OSU holding off Arizona and the Oregon Ducks, of course. I think they'll take care of AU, but I have a feeling Oregon is going to give them all they can handle for a rivalry season finale game.

All Right! A lot happened this weekend. new projections:
Natty- Texas vs. Alabama (I have a gut feeling Florida will win the SEC, though. But Alabama is undefeated now so they get benefit of the doubt.)
Rose- USC vs. Penn State (still up in the air out west, but Arizona played OSU so tough that I still think Oregon will take them out)
Fiesta- Oklahoma vs. Utah (Good matchup, states kinda close together...I think this is a lock if both teams win out.)
Sugar- Florida vs. Cincinnati ( projected Big East champ Cincy's 2-1 against ranked teams, and the loss was against Oklahoma. I think this is a better matchup than dumping Cincy to the Orange...If florida ends up in the nat, I think Bama falls, and if they lose big, I think Ohio State sneaks in here. )
Orange- Miami vs. Boise State (Miami's the ACC champ here, and they're coming around so hopefully this'll be competitive. I stick with Boise because I'm hoping they don't go with Ohio State. Undefeated better trump two-loss, or else I will be completely convinced the BCS is a travesty, beyond a shadow of a doubt. Of course, as I mentioned, they might get both if Alabama gets destroyed by Florida.)

No offense to the Utah fan, but I hardly see Texas/Utah as a good matchup. One of the reasons the bcs is so worthless is because shit conferences like the mountain west get automatic bids. And fuck Boise State. The problem with the BCS is the opposite of what you just said. Boise State in no way shape or form deserves a better bowl game than tOSU. If ohio state was in the wac they would be undefeated as hell and they're not even that good this year. And Miami gets a bcs game when they aren't even top 25? That's just fucked. Cincinnati is completely undeserving of a bcs game as well.
My only projection is Iowa in the Cap1 bowl after Ohio State gets a BCS game and we get selected over northwestern and msu because they both suck ass. Srsly though we'll probably only get the Outback though.

It's only an autobid if they finish in the top 8 of the poll at the end of the year, and only one team can get an auto like that. Boise has to be selected from the at-large pool. And they beat some big schools and some ranked teams too. Boise you have an argument with, the best team they played was Oregon, but they did put up over 40 points 5 times this year. I don't really want to put them in, but Ohio State lost twice; in a year like this that's just unacceptable to get a BCS game...and skipping down the rankings to find the next available team, we come to Texas Christian out of the MWC, and right after them, Ball State.
OSU couldn't get it done in a fairly weak conference against Penn State, or against USC, and got out of Madison by three points. Boise, although they did play in a weak conference, consistently destroyed the teams that get to see them every year. If they lost once, then they'd be out of the picture. But, they didn't, and in a system that purports to reward teams for good seasons while at the same time not allowing undefeated small schools the chance to play for the title even though that's the ostensible reason for keeping the bowl format, they backed themselves into a corner.
As for Utah, when I said "good matchup" I meant in the sense that a lot of revenue should come in for the game because geographically they should reel in quite a crowd between the two states. And Miami/Cincinnati are projected based on the schedules leftover for the teams, if they win out they'll both be ranked...just projections subject to change, which I will now do with the release of the latest BCS standings.

I retract my whining. It's hard to keep up with all the BCS rules. Mostly the only thing I really care about is Iowa and to a far far lesser extent the b10 anyway.

so uh... if there's 11 teams in the big10 why do they still call themselves the big10?

Haha, I love it when a plan comes together (in regards to the Rose Bowl). New guesses:
Natty- Florida vs. Oklahoma (The way Florida played its in-state rival, and how Oklahoma put up 60 points again make me think they'll jump texas in the BCS standings, eliminating Texas from the chance to play in the conference championship game, which should eliminate them from title game consideration).
Rose- Penn State vs. USC (closest thing to a lock so far)
Fiesta- Texas vs. Utah (it's interesting, ESPN's two projectors put Ohio State in this game, which would mean they get picked ahead of Utah...I think its up in the air; the committee will certainly not pit them against the SEC again in the Sugar Bowl, but Utah deserves this game, and I just don't think Ohio has the credentials.
Sugar- Alabama vs. Boise State (Surely Ohio State won't bump Boise out to play [and almost certainly get destroyed by] the SEC again, will they?)
Orange- Cincinnati vs. Boston College (Cincy's in no matter what, and Boston College is the better team in the ACC championship game. This game will involve Cincinnati and the winner of the ACC champ game almost for sure, as neither team is good enough to unseat any of the others in the other BCS matchups.

And I'll be holding my breath for the next week hoping that the Capital One committee chooses Iowa over MSU

I guess you're allowed to dream, but iowa lost to both teams you're expecting the capital one bowl committee to skip over.
