So, my project now is a .22 Machine gun for hunting/fun.

Where do I start?

I have a book on making a fully-automatic 9mm machine gun, (Which is for informational purposes only, I assure you) and I was wondering if I just scaled that down. I figured that all the internal components need to be much smaller and lighter so that the much smaller explosion from a .22 shot can push the spring back and reset the system each time it fires.

Is my assumtion correct? Or can I follow the same design, just with a smaller barrel and load port.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ALSO: Keep in mind that this gun is for FUN ONLY. I an NOT going to carry this around and be dumb with it. Never, in any state of mind, would I pull a gun on ANYBODY.

Are you talking about making a gun completely from scratch or just modifying one?

using a 9mm design for a .22 might not work because the .22 is rimfire

though there is an e book somewhere on totse about the .22 machine pistol. ill post it if i find it

edit: i think it was somewhere here

A 9mm gun made from scratch, but modified so that the barrel and load port fits .22 rounds

Let's not go admitting to any federal offenses, now.

Rimfire cartridges are incredibly tricky to deal with. You should convert a 10/22 rather than trying to make some piece of shit Luty thing because it won't work.

something like this?

I don't think you could build one from scratch. If your asking for totse help, your off to a bad start.

get a semi auto and convert. then modify it to look like you want.
And there's a reason no one "hunts" with machine guns.

I thought it was legal to make a gun as long as it was registered?

If your book on how to build the 9mm SMG is the P A Luty book. Research more. I know of someone who build the weapon, The breech failed. The barrel was sent flying and the bolt bent to the point that it was impossible to remove. I wish I could have had a video for you. I was too afriad to risk my new 300$ camera to watch something that I was sure would explode.

To anyone who cares. The device was tested in a scrap yard 2km from any residential land. the nearest house was 2.3km away. Myself and the builder of this weapon were behind two inches of steel and two compacted cars when the device went off. We used the 'Ragnar Benson' remote firing rig to test. Two rounds were in the magazine at the time.

I like the idea of a .22 subsonic machine gun. It would be a cool toy without being very dangerous. If I were you, I would go with either a short recoil or a Gas system to cycle the rounds. Gas might be out of your skill/equipment range though.

10/22 + modified camshaft + electric motor= electro-machine gun :D

You don't need the modified camshaft.

What about making a Gatling gun? They seem like they'd be fairly simple to make if you have the right equipment and skill.

Yep. You can't get in trouble if you say SWIM.To quote the Great oddballz194: Fair warning: If you're stupid enough to post a confession it could be held against you in a court of law. SWIM doesn't make a post less useful for the prosecution, either.

Explain. Cam hits trigger every revolution, firing it.

Yeah that's a camshaft. Now what is modified?

Except I'm making fun of you.

Don't admit you're committing crimes on the Internet! Just say SWIM and it's legal!

^Any of you guys ever hear of a crime known as "conspiracy"?

It is a felony and you are coming real close to committing it. As it is, feds could decide you are a threat to national security, snatch your ass and throw you in a cell and you would have NO access to counsel, no habeas corpus rights, no one even had to be told where you were. Oh, and they could torture you if they felt like it.

Thank the folks who brought you the Patriot Act.

I nominate this man for mad scientist of the year. But now it's going to be hell to explain why you can't make your pellet gun fire live .22's.
