That sound is not me panting/masturbating btw. My hand kept rubbing over the mic.
Isn't the "mouth" end a bit long? How do you hold it up?

Wouldn't it be better to move the reel closer to the mouth end? It'll exert less torque that way and that would hopefully make it easier to hold and aim.
Cool thing though.

It's not that heavy. The fittings holding the reel are just pvc.

Thanks. I thought about putting it farther from the barrel, but it might put some interference in the dart's flight.
Cool shit dude. Do you plan on actually using it?
What is that dart made of? Is that a shish kabob?
Is there any particular reason why you mounted the reel so far off the barrel?
What about moving it closer to you and putting an eye or two or three?

i think this would be frowned upon in the fishing community, since snagging a fish is illegal in some places. this might be considered snagging. i like the idea, though, and it looks like it was constructed well. one thing to maybe look into is the tip of that looks like it might be able to come out of a fish. if it got hit, it'd try to swim away, and would probably just pull it out. and if not then, then it'll come out when you're reeling it in. it won't kill it instantly (unless you hit it exactly in some key points). one thing that might work is those deer hunting arrowheads that spring open when they pierce the skin. the only thing to then worry about if those things opening too early when it hits the water. this might be cool as a home security device if you connect a taser to it and have the string be thin wire and if the dart was a little smaller.

I think there is a vid on youtube or something of someone making a taser dart made by sharpening the wires connected to a disposable camera battery. The dart has a broadhead made from a hacksaw blade, so the fish should stay on pretty good.

Yep, but I have to check the river each time to make sure it's clear because most of the time it's murky. The dart is a bamboo skewer with a hacksaw broadhead and paper cone with the fishing line tied above the cone.

I don't see him having much luck with mechanical broadheads. It takes a lot of kinetic energy for them to penetrate well and I doubt most people's lungs are strong enough to do that and still be accurate. Plus the blades usually fold back when pulled backwards, so the fish can still pull off.
I'd maybe use the tip of a big hook and fix it to the end of a dart or see if you can find a small enough speargun tip.

the pics and video look mint, but whats the penetrating power like underwater?
stick something underwater in your bathtub and shoot it, and post a new vid

I could, but spinner reels unravel too easily when the bar is flipped open and having to release my finger right before the blow would be more difficult. I'll get a better reel on my next design.

Not entirely. That's just if you have brand new or really old line on it. You can wet stretch it a bit and it wont be that springy.

get yourself a mid price range baitcaster
http://www.rivermarinesupply.com/xcart/images2/t_11320.jpg
and some braided line
It might be a bit tricky setting it up so you don't get birdsnets but with braid and a bait caster you will get so much more distance then an eggbeater and mono

Never really like baitcasters. He'd have to thumb it to reduce the chance of getting nests, and that would decrease his range. The only thing I ever liked bait casters for is for really big shit. Like sharks and such.
Very nice. You should carve a 'barb' into the skewer to prevent it from being pulled right out of a fish when reilling it in, considering you're actually going to use this to catch fish ;) Take it for a test and post the results... with pics :)

If that'll work, Then you should make it and have a mini-fishkiller rod. Perfect to stuff down your pants if you get caught when someone sees you.
