I finally got my stands so I figured I'd take the new girl for a test drive. Then I had to take a pic or 3. It may not be much to you, but I've been wanting this setup for years. Now I actually have it. I couldn't be happier. Much better than sharing at the university.

I'll never go clandestine with it so I'm not worried about the photos.

fuck you, get over it.
OP nice set up, but you could have posted in the bullshit thread ;) How much did you pay for those kecks?
fuck you, get over it.

kecks? kecks?
what's wrong with "joint clips" ?!
They are BIZARRELY expensive though huh? Although the newer teflon ones with the size indicated just by a little patch of colour are pretty cool, but about 10x as much again!

lol, got used to calling em' kecks. Anyways yeah they are fucking expensive, i just resorted to a tangled bit of metal wire when working with high temps, i had kecks melt on it, fucking annoying :(

Duct tape and wire here! Kecks are a piss take at the price!
OP, very nice looking set up :) I assume by 'clandestine' you mean chemistry with the purpose to make illegal products, which I am convinced none of us here do. You will be using the glass for a few interesting reactions though? right!?

Nah man, I've only ever used duct tape on the joint between the condenser and the bit that connects to the receiving flask.
...Being retarded, I've completely forgotten the name :(:(

hmm yeah your right, but still metal wire shaped in a spiral does the job well and is very re-usable
isn't it annoying to distill into a round bottom flask like that, making collecting different fractions annoying? I usually clamp the end of the condenser and swap conical flasks over as i go. It looks like you would have to dismantle it.

I doubt he will try to collect different fractions :( If i recall he posted about distilling some plants to make some oils, look back at his post ( i think)

I paid $15 for the set of 5 clamps. I don't think thats to bad. It's like the Mastercard commercial:
Keck clamps: $15.00
Peace of mind: Priceless
The thing I'm having trouble with is the condenser tubing. 30 dam dollars for 10 feet! I checked a couple of local hardware stores, but none had the non-kink Tygon type rubber hose. You know, the kind with the ridges running lengthwise down the hose. Usually red colored. Any suggestions?

I like to use transparent tubing because it cheap and i like to see the water in there. Sometimes i like to color the water in there  (yeah yeah its stupid, but who cares?). It cost me around 10 € for 10 m, so yeah :)
alright, im lost. what on earth are kecks?

The little plastic locking things between joints to stop them from coming apart. Older stuff used to have hooks, which you put springs on, which were for the same purpose.

Or they use to take metal wire and bend up

No idea what you mean!
I've done my fair share of chemistry and have used mainly portex for water/nitrogen/argon/hydrogen, + vaccuum tubing (for vaccum!) and some other blue stuff for nitrogen for a while. A freind of mine who does very air sensitive inorganic work uses normal portex too...
