When a cash box is opened without the use of a key, it sprays the notes with an ink that is suppose to leave a permanent stain on the notes inside. My question is, does anybody know of a solvent or a series of washes that can remove this ink, without damaging the cash? The ink is dry, if it was wet I hear Coke can rinse the dye off pretty well.

Bad idea much? But yeah, i heard of this. What i recommend is that you find the component of this ink or at least its commercial name (call up the company providing it making up some bullshit excuse that your looking to buy some for private use). Ask them for the MSDS (which they NEED to provide) and give us that and we can work from there.

Unless someone already knows the answer :) and i doubt highly coke can do the trick, that would mean tho' that apparently carbonated water does the trick...never know.

the problem isn't getting the ink off, its getting it off while not removing the face of the note. you guys have paper notes, so im not sure how well they would stand up to an ethanol / acetone / hexane bath.

This.

I find it highly unlikely you will be able to remove one type of ink whilst keeping another on - obviously both inks, the one you want on the bank note and the one you don't are going to be water impermeable. I would imagine the manufacturer simply makes the ink soluble in a similar range of solvents, effectively making it near impossible to remove a specific ink with solvents alone.

Of course, aren't american bank notes all the same size? If you have lots of stolen cash, might as well start bleaching and buy a good printer.

I think It'd be easier to bleach them. Leave the robbery out of it and find a template for a $5 or $10....an old one. They're still in circulation, just don't go crazy. Bleach dollar bills and print out five or tens. Easy as pie.

I really don't think you'd do it, though. Very few ever do.
