Why does the moon change it's orbit to be closer to earth sometimes, and farther away from earth sometimes?

you know, those nights when the moon seems to be really big in the sky, like it's going to crash onto earth.

I'm assuming there is a scientific explanation , but if so - why doesn't any other celestial body change there distances between other celestial bodies? they don't.

So I have concluded that :

a.)The moon is a CGI effect produced by earth's satellites .

or

b.)The moon is a deathstar like homebase for the reptilians or possibly the insectoids (the moon is like a giant spaceship)

Think about it.

The moons orbit is not perfectly round, it is in fact elliptical, that combined with the spinning of the earths axis means that the moon does vary it distance from earth naturally in its orbit. As for other celestial bodies the earths orbit around the sun is elliptical as well so it to varies in distance from the sun. When its summer in the southern hemisphere they get 6% more solar radiation because they are closer to the sun in there summer then the northern hemisphere is in there summer.

This seems like a troll thread, but there are valid lunar conspiracies.
Google "moon anomalies" and "lunar anomalies".

ummmmm... believe it or not, there was a time where there were no satellites...

Before the universe was born?:confused::confused: A satellite is merely an object in space that circles another object.

considering that the Earth only has one satellite, and that satellite (the moon) is being under question one must understand that it is the artificial satellites that the person you are quoting is referring to

Sounds like someone was a-wishin' that he was eppileptical on a Friday night, but he's broke/grounded & left with only the seething rage of an unbearable envy.

Poor thing. Or are you saying that you didn't spell it that way for comic effect, thought that that is the right way? As that is No. Where. Near. Correct. As a way to spell elliptical. I don't correct people on their spelling.

I just look for the comic effect. Which you most certainly provided. Don't blame me for your goofy wackinesses. :)

The moon looks really big because the earth's atmosphere acts like a lens and magnifies the image you get.

1. lay off the fucking drugs.
2. like one person stated, the moon follows an elliptical orbit, as does the earth and every other planet(i doubt even one planet in this universe follows a perfectly circular orbit, well maybe one because of the law of probability, but eventually gravitational forces from other celestial bodies would change that, ie. jupiter and such)
3. a moon lower on the horizon would appear to be bigger than one higher due to atmospheric lensing, distortion

i have my own theory(i'm sure someone much smarter has theorized before, but i havent found it) about the variance in the earths weather patterns, we know that the earth follows an elliptical orbit, so wouldnt it be natural to assume that it changes position year after year, i mean, we're taught that we have the seasons because the earth is closer at one point(apparently winter???)northern hemisphere anyways, and farther in summer. now imagine the earth following its path like a spiralgraph. wouldnt you think that some summers would be closer and others farther, it would be at various distances and positions many times, maybe taking 100 000 - 1 000 000 years to complete one cycle, i find it hard to believe it follows one set path indefinitely, especially with various forces tugging at the earth, perhaps due to all the known and unknown variables, it never follows any cycle whatsoever??? any thoughts?? im gonna start a separate thread

I've read that the rising moon actually doesn't appear larger due to atmospheric "lensing"? (Hah! As if I believe that.) It has a larger look because it appears close to Earthly objects whereas when it's fully risen there are only celestial bodies for comparison.

I keep meaning to measure the rising Full Moon & then measure it again when it's much higher to see for myself. Because I'll never believe it otherwise! :)

You're an idiot. We all know that Luna is a homebase for moonmeister. It comes closer to Earth when Totse is down, as moonie has to check if it's his connection to the internets being weak or if it's Jeff's cat messing with the servers again.
