View Full Version : Someone want to build this?
The design could really be improved upon, no?

How do you bend plywood like that though?

Soak it.

^Actually if it's thin (1/4" to 3/8") enough it will just bend naturally.
That being said it looks more like a giant clog than a boat...

Paint it to look like a full length boat that has been snapped in half
That thing won't last a year in water, cool idea though.

dont soak it.
you can use a steam box, or you can run a few shallow vertical cuts down it.
thin plywood will bend anyway though.

Why not? As long as you take care of it and dont run into any bigger boats (read: Two guys in a canoe), you should be fine.

Well, wood rots, that looks to be made out of spruce or fir, treated ply might last a little longer, but unless its heavily coated in paint, (and i mean thick thick shit) itll rot out eventually. I guess u could wrap it in like a duradek type material and seal it.

It's a $50 boat, who gives a shit. Build a new one next year.

My neighbor had a wooden rowboat which he used almost daily. It still had all of the original wood 30 years later. All you need is a good coat of laquer, and that'll seal it in fine.
