i wasn't sure whether to put this in gearheads or diy but diy seemed like it might be a bit more helpful. so i've been looking at this crotch rocket i kind of want to buy and it has a polished aluminum frame. the bike was layed down at one point so there's some small dents and dings in the frame. nothing major looks kinda like you took a small ball-peen hammer and hit it a few times so they're just little dents. i'm guessing there's no way to get the dents out but what i'm wondering is if there is anything you could fill them with and still keep the polished look maybe some kind of soilder or something along those lines? and how would i want to do it? thanks

What kinda diameter are the dents we're talking about? & what
Maybe you can get someone who has a TIG welder to put some spot welds to fill them in then you can grind & polish them down.

You could maybe solder it but soldering Al is tricky. & if you were able to do it you'd probably have to use a solder that won't tarnish or cause some kind of corrosion b/w it & the Al. I'm not very experienced on soldering stuff besides Copper & Cu-alloys tho so this is just my 'hypothesis.'

i'd say diameter is roughly 1/2" and at most they're only 1/8" deep. pretty much just small dings. but they're very noticeable with the frame polished. i saw an infomercial a while back about these rods you can buy to weld aluminum with a propane torch but i can't remember the exact name and can't find anything about it. but i was almost thinking that would work to fill them.

Yea, I think I know that commercial you're talking about, that was years ago. I'm pretty sure it's this HTS-2000 (http://aluminumrepair.com/login/Video_Brochure/newflash.html) stuff. It's likely just a kind of Tin solder, but I don't think they say what it's composed of.

Look up "aluminum brazing"

Brazing rods?

And could you possibly put a finish over car body filler to patch it?

Dented frame? Do not buy.

its one of my friends bikes and he's been riding it for 3 years the dents are basically just dings and aren't structual they're just from it being laid down at like 20mph. its dirt cheap and i was looking on ebay and i can get a good from for under a grand so i might just buy a different frame. its a 98 cbr900rr just for reference too.

Ah. Figured it was an actual kink.

Can you take it off and push it out from the back?
