Well, the lamp at the head of my bed is really fucking gay so I asked my mom if I could get one that is cool, like some sort of novelty lamp. She asked what I wanted and I asked for a bong lamp, but she said that they don't make those and to my dismay they don't. However, she said that she will buy me a bong to make one out of it myself, but I am not exactly sure how. Can any of you guys throw out some advice, perhaps guide me to some resources that could help me?

I know of a friend of a friend who makes bongs, should I ask him for a bong without a bottom and work from there?

I'd just buy a full bong, and then drill a hole in the bottom somewhere, probably on the side. You have to make the slide into the switch though.

All you need is a place to run a cord out. A bulb socket and shade can be taken from an old lamp, as can an inline switch mounted on the cord.

First thing I noticed.

If possible, rig it so the slide is the switch. Pull it out to turn the lamp on, push it in to turn it off. Simple mechanism, but it might be hard to build inside the bong, hopefully you could design it to fit through the hole.

If youre doing that, use a second bulb to vaporize, instead of burning.

I say you just suffer with having the gay lamp, buy a sweet bong, and use it for what its made for. But if you insist, then I have no idea how to help you.

i didn't say it wouldn't be functional, i just meant that i would rather have a bong serving in its intended capacity rather than a bong serving as a lamp.

I think he was telling the OP to make a lamp that you can smoke from. Ie. it has two functions, bong and lamp.

Then fuck my slide-switch idea. How about you just make a small shade over an empty socket, then affix them into a funnel shaped cone, which sits in the top of the stem? Problem is it's top heavy, might also be good to make a base that fits the bong and will keep it safe.
