I got double your answer. Are you certain you counted the 32nd day (June 1st)? I model the problem as:
nth amount of money = .05 * ({sum from n=1 to n=32} 2^(n-1))
If you have a calculator that will just compute that sum you get $214,748,365.

may has 31 days. from what im reading, the first "doubleing" happens on may 2nd. if you include june 1, thats 31 days
if a nickel is $0.05, the answer should be 0.05*(2^31) = $107374182.40
im working on the logic that
May 1 = 0.05
May 2 = 0.05 * 2
May 3 = 0.05 * 2 * 2 = 0.05 * 2^2
.
.
May 31 = 0.05 * 2^30
June 1 = 0.05 * 2^31
More importantly, Why does someone with over 100 million dollars to spare need to borrow a nickel?

ahh, i see, i thought he gives twice as much each day (5 cents first day, + 10 cents second day + 20 cents third day for a total of 35 cents the third day) but now i see you are correct.
