Billybob buys a house at 3% interest for, lets say five years, excellant. then shock, oh my god, my interest is now 11% because some greedy son of a bitch wants more money and I was to stupid to read the fine print. Of course this didn't just happen to poor old billybob but to an awful lot of others and not just in the us but around the world. So why did the bankers (the have's) not just drop the interest when they realized that oops, a lot of people are going default on their loans. oh yeah, that would be because they all gave themselves massive year end bonuses (tens of millions). Now they wine and whimper to the political dweebs who are also big investors in the markets for a huge bailout at the havenot's expense. God I love globalization and no money, because this did not affect me in any way possible. Yes my RRSPs have dropped, so what, in a few years they will probably be stronger than they are now. The only ones that are taking a big hit are the big investors and the bankers, cry me a fucking river you greedy bastards. You Americans should be screaming bloody murder and should lynch a few politicians if the money is issued to wall street. The way I understand it is banks gave mortages to people who could barely pay the 3%, but did so anyway under the assumption that real estate prices would continue to rise and thus billybob would have a fat stack of capital that the bank could levy interest against in the long run. The problem is so many people are building houses that real estate didn't increase the way it was predicted and now billybob and his millions of analogs actually don't have jack shit as their one big capital sink just lost money instead of gained it.

700 Billion on it's own is not a lot of money when you consider the assets that are been purchased... But when you add that to the 600 billion of credit they've already injected into the market (created out of thin air) and the blank check they wrote for fannie freddie (possibly another trillion there) - You're looking at a very long depression for the green back... And I think that's a high price to pay for the illiquid assets on offer...

Perfect move by Bush really because if the democrats do get in, it will take years to fix. By which time the united stupid of America would have forgotten about it and will vote for another republican because he's a fundamental wackjob...
