Righty-ho, I'll keep this short and sweet before the TL;DR crew perk up.

Currently in the second of four years of a MSci Hons in Mathematics and Computer Science over in England - I did well enough in my Qualifying Year to open the door to international exchange in my third year for a semester or full year at a bunch of universities (some might know the scheme: Universitas 21) - however the only university that really took my interest was (as you might have guessed) UBC in Vancouver. The alternative in Canada was McGill University but I was a bit too struck by the UBC campus to give that a second thought - nonetheless...

The question I have to you, &T; is does anyone here go to UBC already, or know anyone that does? I'm looking for some insights as to what the student life is like there - if anyone has any experience of their departments mentioned above so much the better, but in general I'd like to gauge if I'm going to enjoy myself. I hear it's pretty far out from the city itself, so I don't know what quite to make of that.

And campus-specifics aside, hell, anyone who's at university in Canada and has something that would be interesting/helpful, I'd be appreciative!

TL;DR - There isn't one, sorry. :(

I'm at U of T doing my U-grad double majoring in Math and Comp. Sci. But I know a bunch of Comp. Sci. students doing their PhD here and they all seem to enjoy. I was planning on doing my graduate in the States, though but I'll see in a few more years.

I visited UBC one time. It's not far from the city at all and the neighborhood was gorgeous and clearly oriented towards students. The entire west side of Vancouver seemed to be one massive college town. I can't say too much about student life since I was there for less than a day, but it looked very appealing as far as student living goes.

That wasn't long at all.

There are quite a few people from BC and most of them are from Vancouver and they said that they it was pretty cool but you can't beat T.O.

UBC would be a great choice. Though I must warn you, its quite a big campus. So it may be a culture shock if you go there from a smaller uni.

Heh, good stuff! I've seen pictures of the Vancouver campus, it's a similar size to the University of Nottingham, and I do enough walking to and from departments as it is so that's not a problem! :D

Pretty keen on making sure that I can get the exchange to happen, just need to keep the marks up for the semester to guarantee a place! :P
