Yes, I know there are several threads about this topic already. I felt it was necessary to create a new topic for this because I want to try to spread the word about this idea as quickly and widely as possible. If you like my idea, please forward it to your congressional representatives as soon as possible. One question the corporate news media always asks of those opposed to the $700 billion bailout is, “Well, we need to do something, what’s your idea?”
My idea is simple and elegant. The Federal Reserve Bank is telling us that we need to borrow up to $700 billion from them, at interest, to bail out Wall Street. I say, let’s eliminate the middleman … the US taxpayer. The Federal Reserve Bank, as we all know, is a privately owned bank. Let them loan the $700 billion directly to Wall Street themselves.
The beauty of this idea is that there is no good way for the Fed to say no. What can they say?
“We don’t feel it’s a good credit risk.” But they’re asking us to take that risk.
“We don’t care enough about the US economy to make the loan.” Then I guess we shouldn’t either. After all, they would suffer just as much as we would.
“It’s really not important enough to the US economy for us to make that loan.” So now you’re telling us it’s not so important after all?
Once again, if you like the idea, please spread it around. If enough people are aware of this simple alternative, we can save future generations billions of dollars.
