So at Dunhams they are selling M91-30s for $75. Is it worth buying?

Check all internal and contacting metal for rust and corrosion.

If you see turned down bolts, check them first.

Mine came from Dunham's, it's an ex-sniper. They don't know or care about the difference. Some will have turned down bolts but most ex-snipers had them replaced with new straight bolts after being rearsenalled. Do research on the ex-snipers first if you want an accurate one. Mine is the most accurate rifle I own.

Here what I asked in my "just turned 18" thread, which people have seem to forget about... :( Just want an answer to:

About the mosin nagant - is there a site/book that has different values of the rifles, in different years, makes, conditions, etc. ? That would be really useful. There are like 20+ mosin for sale a a gunstore near here. I wanna check out values and look into getting one. When they time comes closer though Ill post the exact one on year and get you guys to take a look.

Also, how much is ammo for it in your area? I checked a few online places but they seem to be all over the place.

I don't know of a site or book with the values for each different arsanal and year but they seem to be all pretty much the same except for the Fin ones and some of the really old ones. If you want the best out there buy a Finn M38 or w/e but be prepared to pay a little more. Best thing to do is just look for one with a good bore and no rust or pitting (check under the wood too if you can you only need to take off 2 clips and 2 screws) if all the metal work looks good, buy it.

The worst that's going to happen is that you get one with an oversize bore and it won't shoot that well in which case sell it, buy another one and you've only lost about $25.

From what i've seen ammo prices tend to vary a great deal, best thing to do is look around and when you find some cheap stuff, look on here http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinAmmo.htm and here http://www.surplusrifle.com/ to see if it's any good and if it is buy all you can because it isn't getting any cheaper. Stay away from Albanian stuff!

While on the topic of MN's has anyone tried bluing the bolt? Or have pics of what it looks like? I've noticed my bolt is always the first place rust appears (Especially around the handle) and it's pissing me off, i'm thinking of bluing it but don't want to if it will look shit :D .

www.surplusrifle.com is a place to start, there are also various c&r shooting forums on the internet if you want to get really serious about it.

7.62x54r is pretty cheap right now. A sealed can of 300-400 rounds should be between $50-70. Gun shops will mark that up probably 10-20%. Gun shows will usually be the cheapest, online vendors will often be close or better but shipping can be a bitch.

Aim surplus is a good place to get ammo.

Should I get the more expensive one with a laminated stock?

Depends. I pondered the same question. There was one at my local shop with a beautiful laminated stock but it wasn't an ex-sniper which is what I wanted, and it cost more. It went down to the wire but I ultimately chose the one I have pictured above.

Can't really go wrong with either. Make sure you buy when it's on sale though, they have sales all the freaking time. I think I paid $80 out the door for mine.

Wow 70$. This link is the cheapest store that was/shipped to canada, the few I found that had mil surplus rifles were all around this price. Nothing under 200, but finnish rifles not that much more. Is this site just really expensive or am I missing something here...

Mosin Nagant 91/30 at 640yds, on the last 5 shots you can clearly see the "trace" or Vapor trail.
