Well I've been an avid manga reader for the past 5-6 years....I mean some anime is alright, but I only resort to anime when I'm waiting for said manga to be released. ANYWAYS I figure I'd like to start a new series. I enjoy all genre's really, romance/horror/action/comedy, the typical shit, but I also like scifi if it's good.

My current active mangas:

Bleach
Naruto
Gantz (by far my current favorite)
Fullmetal Alchemist
Elfen Lied (fucking last chapter needs to be released..)

Other manga I've read but either aren't translated regularly or I've finished. This is by far a limited list of what I've read but I'm just stating the more popular series...

Chobits
Death note
Ichigo 100% <3
Addicted to curry
YuYu hakusho
Azumanga <3
Berserk
Cowboy bebop
DB/DBZ
FLCL
both gacha gacha series
I's (I wanna finish this...)
Mahou Sensei Negima (I wanna finish this too...)
Zombie Powder

I've definitely read more series than what's posted here...but these are what come to mind at the moment. I've heard Shaman King is good...but I've never checked it out. I know for a fact that there are amazing series out there that I haven't read, and I would like to expand my knowledge. Whether it's an ongoing series or complete I don't really care as long as it's compelling. :)

Mahou Sensei Negima (I wanna finish this too...)You... want to finish that? Actually FINISH it? *Chuckle* Maybe in 5 years or so it might be possible...

...

Airgear is mildly interesting.

Claymore - if you like twisty plots, brutal fight scenes. The story will keep you going.

New Grappler Baki - if you want really really brutal fight scenes, not much in the plot but I love how they come up new ways of brutality in every chapter.

Baki - Son of Ogre - sequel to the former

Good but does not appeal to me:

HunterXHunter - watched it in anime, very good story. The bad thing is in the manga, the drawing is crap. It's more of a sketch. They didn't even bother drawing the faces in most of the slides.

Shaman King - I rather watch the anime version.

"They" you speak of is named Togashi. He works on it by himself. Also, in the volumes released, he went back and redid the art. It looks a lot better.

Hunter X Hunter is a very good manga, it just started up again after a 5 months break. Most complex fighting. Togashi went through great lengths to explain the rules and abilities of the Nen system so one character's power don't contradict themselves as often happens in DBZ, Bleach, Naruto.

Another favorite of mine that I see you haven't mentioned is One Piece. Definitely the best manga I've ever read...I've read all of Gantz and Berserk and still say that.

It's slow at fast but gets depth later in the series around the Arlong Park arc

AirGear is ok. Way too complex for something as just fighting with roller blades, but what can you expect from Oh! Great who also makes Tenjou Tenge.

ai ren - if you like sad love stories. a bit of scifi mixed in too.
hellsing - one of the best. much better than the series if you've seen it.
ghost in the shell - one of the best, in my opinion and a must read. also a bit different from the movies and series.
akira - another must read. fucking awesomeness.
love hina - heheh...

If you like Ichigo 100% (Personally, I got bored), then you might like Unbalance x Unbalance. And it's got plenty of fanservice to boot, if you're into that sort of thing.

Doubt is also very good. Sort of psychological horror-type thing.
