ITT: Michael Crichton fucking rocks. I've been reading a lot more of him lately; specifically, Disclosure, and now Timeline. Timeline's got an extremely interesting plotline, I can't seem to put it down. D'you guys like his stuff? Favorite book?

Unfortunately I haven't read the Andromeda Strain yet -- how was that?

Sphere - amazing
Congo - also amazing
Prey - scary

I read timeline quite a few years ago. The book beat the hell out of the movie.

My favorite Crichton novels are Timeline, Congo, Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Sphere, The Andromeda Strain, and The Terminal Man.

Probably in that order.

Sphere is probably my favorite Crichton book, but Timeline and Andromeda Strain were pretty killer too.

I just got done reading State of Fear by him. The book was one part John Grisham novel and one part not-so-subtle attack on environmentalism and the global warming theory. I liked it.

I enjoyed Next, even though it was pretty far out plot-wise.

Jurassic Park is always a classic. As a kid I loved the movie, but the book is even better.

I'm getting Sphere tonight from the library. And Wiki says he's writing a new book, if you haven't seen.

I've just finished reading Prey, and it was scary as shit. Some of the sciencey stuff he writes about goes over my head, but it's good stuff anyways.

Andromeda Strain is one of my favorite books.

The movie/mini series adaptation wasn't all that great, though.

I like all of his early to middle books, but his news ones are really terrible. The last two, Next and State of Fear were diatribes under the thin disguise of a story. It would have been better if he had just written them as nonfiction; having his cardboard characters spurting out facts was just too painful to read.

I did my senior research paper on Jurassic Park, and ended up reading it about 15 times.
Then I was at a friends house and noticed Lost World in his book case and took it. Just finished it today and I can say it was eerily predictable/similar to the original. I still loved it though.
I also saw Prey and a few other books that I might have to steal :p

Alright, Sphere was one of the more introspective books I've ever read.

Damn...

i've read Timeline, Prey, and Next. He's a good author but not as knowledgeable on the tech subjects as Neal Stephenson. I recommend Zodiac to any Crichton fans. It was written in the 80's, its an "eco-thriller" set in Boston and it's fucking awesome. Really smart guy, Neal is.

(its nothing to do with the movie Zodiac)
