Or failing that, anything based on the European Dark Ages; Holy Roman Empire; witch burnings; the dark side of Catholicism; possession by the Devil .etc .etc

I've had this idea for a story for nearly a year now and I've just been planning it and planning it, and it's really beginning to take shape. But before I commit myself to writing it, I want to be 100% sure that the plot is as good as it can be, so I'm just looking for any material possible on relevant subjects.

To help explain a bit more of what I'm looking for, think of the opening to Elfen Lied: Lilium. The despair, holiness and helplessness which comes across in that song sums up an aspect of what I want to create pretty much perfectly.

Claymore hits a tangent aswell...

But yeah, if there's anything I'm overlooking, I'd be glad to take any suggestions :D

That'd be a good topic for an anime, but I can't recall ever hearing about any. Sorry.

And I fucking love Lilium as well, I recorded it with Audacity a while back just so I could have it in my music folder without having to load up an episode to hear it. Thank you for reminding me of how much I loved that song.

What's your plot you're thinking of, roughly? Sounds interesting.

Going to be called 'Kaluna'.

There's this planet surrounded by 8 moons, and between them there's an impregnable barrier. It's like the last sacred place in the universe, and all the powers that be want to take over it.

They can't invade it, so they resort to using some kind of radiation wave which requires masses and masses of energy to possess certain people and act as gods over the planet. They try and spread evil religion to a really peaceful and serene planet in an attempt to try and take it over from the inside.

Basically, the story will follow a few enslaved child soldiers who are in an army which wants to spread something akin to christianity across the planet. The child soldiers are at first really cowardly .etc but develop into psychos and slaughter people. It's worth noting that a war hasn't taken place on the planet in forever, so nobody knows how to deal with it.

The ones that oppose the superpower are going to be likened to charecters from Norse mythology. Half way through the main charecter will be left for dead and will be revived as a 'Valkyrie'. Rebel group forms and tries to rid the planet of evil...

There's a few other things aswell which make it a bit more understandable, but that's where it gets dangerously close to FF7... Thinking of having a very rare resource on the planet called 'synergy' which fuels the planet's barrier, and the gods above want the people to try and mine it all up in war to kill the barrier. Maybe not so close, but Valkyries being revived with synergy might be... Cloud, Sephiroth...

Not sure. But yeah, hopefully it doesn't sound like a crock of shit.

Berserk? The anime doesn't have much to do with the stuff you mention besides the medieval europe setting, but the manga does later on (dark side of Catholicism/witch burnings and crusade type europe vs. arabish peoples stuff).
