The animation of the seccond season seems second rate compared to the first.. anyone else notice that? Fucking bull shit...
Anyway.. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and am wondering if someone can recommend an anime with a very serious tone like this one?
Edit - I've seen kaiji, and am not really big on akaji

Edit - I've seen kaiji, and am not really big on akajiI need this anime. And the manga (which, incidently, goes beyond the second series iirc).

i either reccomend bleach, since my friends love it,or code geass.
bleach may have its silly moments, but code geass is the way to go if your into very very serious anime.

Gunslinger Girl and Bleach dont really belong in the same sentence.
Unless of course your making an analogy:
Gunslinger Girl:Serious and thought provoking :: Bleach: Giant swords and whining
But you could look into 'Jin Roh of the Wolf Brigade'. It was serious, had guns and a cute girl with problems. Sounds good right?

I haven't watched the second season. But I have seen some screen shots and I can tell that the art is more anime like with bigger eyes and the colors doesn't really match up to the Gunslinger Girl mood.
I've watched some episodes of Kino's Journey and it seems to be serious with a dramatic mood like Gunslinger Girl.

Serious anime? I'm looking for that one too ;)
Anyways, I'll help you out on that one.
These are the list of "serious" anime.....depending on what you like out of gunslinger girl, some of these anime might turn you on or turn you off completely.
(Reality - mostly thriller)
Master Keaton
Monster
Deathnote (besides the death god and the note itself, the anime is pretty serious and "consistent")
Note: Code geass has been compared to deathnote though I don't really like it after watching 4 episodes
If you like the drama stuff of gunslinger girl:
Elfen lied (a bit gory and brutal so might turn you off but explore abandonment and human attachment drama)
Yugo the negotiator (can be too slow for some people - first arc rocks, the second one a bit too artificial)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slightly off:
Detective Conan - long series (good detective/deduction skill but mostly geared to adventures now)
If you like all the above then we have relatively same taste and message me if you find a good anime :D
