Recommend me some. I'm not talking about horror that's like "What are you talking about? Lucy has been dead for ten years...". You know, not the kind of movie that's scary because it's like WOAH and shit, you know? Yeah you know. More violent and gory and rawr rawr rawr. Like splatter movies and zombie movies.
Hmmph?

Event Horizon much?
This movie is so shit, I was expecting it to be fucking mad from what I read, but in reality it just fails hard, and really isnt that gory at all.
I was young, but first time I watched House of 1000 Corpses I nearly shat my pants. More funny and weird then anything, but some good gore moments.
And for a good scary, high intensity zombie movie watch [REC].

Doesn't something have to be scary to be horror? It might just be me, but there was nothing scary or anything other than boring about that movie. Everyone I talk to about it thinks its the greatest horror movie they've ever seen. Am I missing something with it? It's there a big plot twist or something that I completely missed? If so, I would like to know what it was cause I want to be scared too.

Yeah, I'm with you. It wasn't bad or anything, but just...not great at all. As I recall, they basically go into a cave, encounter monsters, and then just scream and crawl/run around as their numbers dwindle. It was really straightforward, and there was nothing interesting or scary about the monsters.
If you're going to have a monster movie, you need something to make it interesting. Aliens: They shoot acid, have spiders that impregnate people, and they have a fucking biting tongue thing. Pitch Black: It wasn't scary, but the stay-in-the-light aspect and the characters made it interesting. Even that shit-fest The Cave gets a few creativity points for having the monsters infected with some virus.

Brain Dead or Evil Dead 1. The second Evil Dead is better but not as gory.

i dont have any recommendations for any good horror, but i will recommend against all the Saw movies
The first film is enjoyable but only if you ignore the fact there is sequels.
It's another one of those film franchises that went too far, ironic considering it's main selling point was it's abstractness.

Worst fucking horror movie in history.
I just watched it last night. I had seen most of it a few years ago, but forgot everything except the ending.
It's definitely a good movie, and amusingly, it's the best "first-person" style movie out there. The fact that it was the first of its kind, and that it seemed real also probably helped the scare-factor among audiences. (I mean, people know that Cloverfield never happened and that zombies never attacked people, so those movies really just come off as gimmicky.)
They were pretty creative with the horror aspects too, as you never really see any actual villains. You basically just hear fucked up sounds and you see the group become more and more disoriented and scared. The best line is "There's no fucking baby out there!" when they think they heard a baby crying (among other things) in the middle of the woods.
I think it really could have benefited from showing SOMETHING though. I mean, no scary faces popping up (that's extremely obnoxious and cheap, IMO), but for instance, you know there are just 3 of them, but they could have had the camera panning around and you briefly see what looks like an extra person standing a little bit off the distance. If something like that was done at a completely unexpected time, it would have been awesome.
Blair Witch was a solid 7.5/10 in my book.

It was creative and new, but it had nothing to do with horror. I'm no tough guy, and not at a single time during the entire film did I feel just a little scared - And neither did anyone I've ever talked to except hysterical females.

Same. I wasn't scared at all, but...I can't think of any horror movie that really scared me while I was watching it. Usually horror books/movies scare me after I've read/watched them...like, if you watched Blair Witch and then went camping a week later.

I agree, but that last part in the basement was pretty damn good the first time you saw the movie, aye?
And you're right that they should have shown a figure in the distance, but they should have only done that one or two times, or else it'd start to deter from the psychological mindfuck aspect of the movie. Anyways, I derive more pleasure from watching people watch the movie than the movie itself.

They basically took the game, and completely raped it till it wasn't breathing anymore.
If you plan on watching Silent Hill, I really recommend to save yourself the time and get the games instead, starting from Silent Hill 1.
These are some of the few games that can really be considered a work of art.

Yeah. It started off really strong, but the second half was crap. Basically...everything leading up to her going inside the church was awesome, and from there it was downhill.
It's not a ridiculously gory movie, but I thought the nightmare-world was effectively hellish.

Heh, when I was writing a review of the movie back when it got released, I was saying the exact same thing. It seemed as if they had 2 people writing the screenplay - one was thinking "Hmm, we've got to make it all really atmospheric and focus on the psychological horror", and the other said "Fuck that, let's have blood and meat flying everywhere."
