Hey guys, I was wondering if you could all help with my constitutional law paper topic. I'm not asking for answers just suggestions. I had two ideas in mind, 1 being the patriot act and the constitution but that has to be way overdone by now. My second was going to be police over-stepping their bounds in searches and such, but then I just seem like a silly pothead. The paper will be 10 pages roughly, I'm sure any constitutional topic could cover that and more though. Thanks.

Do one on presidential signing statements and the lack of verifying the constitutional validity of those statements and which branch would best be responsible for validation.

Can't go wrong with the old second amendment.

Do you think if I thoughtfully argued the above point, I would sound like a total idiot or could it be some sort of symbolism about how we interpret the constitution?

Free speech in context of high school students and government employees could be interesting, depending on which one you choose. Relevant case rulings for these include Morse v. Frederick and Garcetti v. Ceballos.

I too need a law paper topic (doesn't have to be constitutional). But mine only has to be 5 pages, I think, so I know you're not in my class. And I have to have the topic prepared by tomorrow. Shit.

Well you could do something along the lines of police discretion.

What about the constitutionality of Roe v Wade?

ie: critique the legal reasoning.

I think I've got it. I want to do something along the lines of, "is freedom of religion freedom from religion?"...the only thing is I need help on some cases. I looked it up and I have a case, Kaufman v. McCaughtry, if anyone else knows any cases dealing with the constitution and atheism it would be a big help.

Do it on how the Executive Branch is the most powerful branch in Government right now but when the Constitution was made the Legislative Branch was supposed to be the most powerful.

It's some good information to talk about.

Actually I think the Legislative branch IS the most powerful even today (all the shit McCain and Obama are currently promising are not going to happen unless they get it past congress. It irritates me how no news people or debate moderators seem to bring that up). But they want us to think the president is important because that's such a beauty contest and it distracts from the men behind the curtain. Few people know anything about their congressman, the guy that really matters. People do zero research for congressional races, and either just vote on their party line, or vote for the incumbent, blindly.
