I've noticed that I've never seen a turbocharged Chevy block, they are always supercharged. Why is this?

It's pretty simple to just take off the intake, plop a super on there, bolt everything down, and get a longer belt.

Superchargers are really old technology that's had a lot of support over the years. It's like asking why do people get married. It works for most everyone, so not too many venture out.

As for the original question, there are a lot of very simple, bolt-on supercharger kits for the SBC. Also, V8s have a much lower powerband than smaller motors, so it's better to have a supercharger because you don't have to wind the motor way up to get turbos to kick in.

For fun driving around town I'd prefer supercharged. If I was going to get into competition, though, I'd go turbocharged because the engine would be built for screaming high RPMs anyway.

Max torque (probably 90%+) from 2000 rpm. They made this new Turboed 6 into a fine motor, it shits on Fords 8. Plus its Australian.


XR6 - 533Nm @ 2000rpm - 4750rpm

XR8 - 520Nm @ 4750rpm

Thus the 6T is at full capacity earlier in the rev range than the 8,

Edit: and it revs less, you seem to like that for some reason. (though the FPV one revs riiiight out)

Jags were never good. Performance aside, build quality was never one of their high points. Granted modern Jag- er, Fords are built by people without instructions, even old ones like to fall apart.

People started using roots blowers around the 60s, because they could pull one off a Detroit Diesel (ever wonder why an 8-71 blower is named that? It's the same design as a Detroit 8v71 diesel.)
