Let's put it this way. What could you fir in a VXRSM or whatever it's called (the Aus car that's going to be sold as the new El Camino) that you couldn't fit in a wagon. I hate the look of utes.

Even if you could fit large stuff in a wagon, you don't wanna put bricks, sand, gravel, engine blocks, greasy parts ect. inside your wagon.

However, these new style sexier utes are just phallic symbols now, I'd never put anything but a surfboard in the back of that thing.

I'd rather buy a panel van and not get rain/dust/assorted grime on whatever I'm carrying.

But you can't just toss your shit in the back and go.

can't move a fridge in the back of a wagon or panel van. (unless your a dumbass and lye it down)

can't install a set of racks to carry planks, ladder or form work in a wagon or panel van

cant chuck livestock in the back of a wagon or panel van (unless you wanna smell shit the whole trip)

can't carry a excavator load of soil, sand, gravel, gold oar in a wagon or panel van

Can't load your mates in the back to go shooting in a wagon or panel van. (unless you want bloody carcasses inside)

and so on and so forth.

Don't want rain/dust/assorted grime on whatever ya carrying? Chuck a tarp over it.

All true except point #1.

You can lay fridges down but you need to let them stand for around an hour to let the gasses settle before you plug it back in.

see now thats a new fridge, not an old fridge.

we arent talking about ipods here, innovations in refrigerators are few and far between.

Ute = pickup truck? I.e. http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/autoreview/400x266/1994-97-Mazda-B-Series-95807101990515.jpg?

I thought it was just those toolish el-camino types.

Sorta like that.

Those commodore utes are for tradies who just need something to chuck their tools in when they drive around the city.

Farmers buy hiluxes.

I have no clue what that means but would love to hear more. That must be a badass job if you need a truck with a snorkel to get out to the worksite...

Archimedes_Soul
2008-10-14, 10:26
your all taking some some big assumptions there.

Yeah, it's a snorkel. but I don't "need" it for everyday work. maybe if i'm working in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It has come in handy during wet days, I work outside so when it rains i generally take the day off, along with my colleagues.
And go and do some wheeling in the mud with them.
I've had water about 100mm above window line before, so the snorkel came in handy.

big o'l tray is a must have, plenty of room for anything i wanna put in there. who wants a styleside that if you smash around the re-sale of the truck is rooted.
If you look at the pic, at the step just behind the door
I've bent it up, along with the side step, sliding of rock drops and swiping trees. GQ's are a big car, not the best thing for tight bush tracks.
*edit, there bigger then hummers dimension wise

As for the 4.1 TD, i tow heavy trailers, work and recreation things, and also have a set or racks for carrying about 300kg's of planks.
Turbo was payed for by me, but i didn't do the work I left that up to a professional It's a "commercial vehicle" and I get a big tax right off from everything, fuel, repairs ect.

It is a coil cab, not the best for heavy loads opposed to leaf sprung, but i've got airbags in it, so I can pump it up with i'm fully loaded. and enjoy a smooth ride when unloaded. (not the lowrider bouncy bounce kind)

ComradeAsh

Got a lyco-loader?

Archimedes_Soul
2008-10-14, 10:42
lyco-loader or any other type of hydraulic lifting system isn't practical for me.
it's about 300kg's total each individual thing is about 10-15 maybe.

and i like taking it off road/beach and wouldn't want something like that onboard to worry about.

ComradeAsh
2008-10-14, 10:54
I thought lyco had a sort of winch operation.

We were moving ridiculously heavy boxes once, came in handy.
