Seems quite simple for small-scale yields.
I've never tried it.
But,... If you think it's worth it, How would one go about obtaining hypophosphorous acid? (I'm asking indirectly, like... is it used as a ____ which is commonly sold at ___ shops?)

Traditionally, one dumps a crapload of H2O2 on a pile of phosphorous.

'n just so you know, it's usually used for converting I2 to HI, rather than doing any direct reductions of organic compounds, but have fun in whatever you're planning to do.

Hypophosphorous acid is found in marine shops in 57% conc. and it is used to remove rust and it is often diluter and used to scrub the deck (wooden deck) of the boat. Works like wonders too:)

Nah, you're getting confused between chemicals and pubic hair... ;)

I know far too many "men" who have access to far too many chemicals, but have a desperate (though unknown to them...) need to grow up...!

Shame...
