Ok so it's not really my own personal property, but it is PRIVATE property. It's the parking lot for the apartment building I live in and I got a ticket for not having a city sticker.

I know theres probably not much I can do about it, I was thinking of buying the sticker and protesting it but I don't wanna look like a dumb ass.

I just think it's bullshit, and to top it off, the cop did it in the middle of the night..I mean, don't they have real shit to deal with?

Any chance I can appeal it and say it was on private property+a non moving vehicle(lie)?

You don't say where you live.

Council officers can issue parking tickets on private parking lots if the parking lot has an agreement with the council to do so, however, in such a case, the parking lot must comply with signage standards.

Appeal it and say you're a resident if you think you've got a shot.

I'm almost positive there has to be a sign posted to notify people before it can be enforced.

The question is, what does the "city sticker" signify? Everyone who parks within the city has to have one or something? Why does where you were parked matter if you didn't have the sticker?

Or is it like, a parking permit to park on the street?

This thread is pointless without us knowing the state and city it applies to.

I live in Illinois in the south burbs. It's a city sticker that every vehicle has to have if you live in the city. Basically my point was that can a cop go into private parking lots in the middle of the night and issue tickets? I get the issue that obviously the car is out driving without it, but man, I can see if I was parked out on the street, but to go into building lots?

Anyways I got the sticker for a measly 10 bucks and now I gotta pay the fucking $25 fine. I guess I just have a real problem with wasting 25 bucks on nothing. Yes im cheap and against cops who have nothing better to do to force people to pay the city money when they don't fix up the city(fix pot holes, etc). Damn I wish I could sit on my ass all day and collect that kind of cash.

How do you know it was a cop that wrote the ticket? Probably was a traffic meter maid type person.

Heh, there's a car I've seen parked in a student lot here, but there's no overnight parking allowed in that particular lot. But the sign saying that is small and it's kind of confusing since the car is parked right by a sign that says "Student Parking." And he's got a student parking permit...just for the overnight lot. So he's got like 3 tickets so far, one every couple of days, just sitting there cause he hasn't needed to use his car apparently and is oblivious to the mistake. That's gonna suck when he finally goes to the car.

I know it's a cop because he wrote his star(or badge) number on the ticket, and usually only cops can write REAL tickets in this city(unless your a crossing guard or some shit, and I dont even know if they can).

But fuck it, it's paid for and they can't and won't fuck with me anymore.

And ya that does suck for that guy, but I have never known a guy who doesnt give a shit about his car, lol.
