so how old are you and where are you heading in life?
do you have a goal for say.
5 years
10 years
20 years
do you think you'll change career paths?
how many.
apparently a person living up in todays enviroment (australia, good education), or developed nation, university qualifications.
would change career paths up to thirteen times (on average)
how old is the max. age to change a career path, in that there is a sufficent allocation of time before you retire to which you can be promoted.

goal for 5 years - finish university
goal for 10 years - land a decent biomedical engineering/polymer science/metallurgy type job (my degree puts me in a good spot for all 3)
goal for 15 years - none
i might want to get into politics or start a business when im older
what degree has that much range that you can move into good jobs in all three fields?

I'm going to guess material engineering.
5 years: Graduate and have a career plan.
10: Follow through said career plan.
15: Live hermetically in Western Canada for remainder of life.

I'm about to turn 20, currently going to a university as a criminology major.
I have no idea what I will be doing in 5 years. Could be working as a public defender or some such shit right after law school, could be still in law school, could be in the military, could be working some government job. No idea.
10 years and 20 years from now is even less clear.
I can see myself changing jobs, but not necessarily career paths. Unless I become unsatisfied with what I'll do to the point that I can't take it anymore. Then it's back to the drawing board and who knows what I'd end up doing.
For some reason, I've always thought it wouldn't be too bad to be a high school counselor. Ha.

your quite similar to me.
im going to try do a law/commerce degree, or a law/social science degree (crimonlogy)
then joining the defence force,
then working in the police force.
counesller at highschool isn't bad either.
here, you'd get 10 week holidays,
all the 'heavier' shit you delegate to 'psychiatrists'.
pretty much most counselling shit at my highschool is more of lack of motivation, or failing in subjects, gf/bf/ problems.
there's a few 'issues' at home though.

Heh, counseling at my high school was pretty much just about scheduling and applying to college. And even then some of them were incompetent in that. I guess that's part of the reason why I'd like to do it...just to do it right. Inspire those kids a la Crazy Joe Clark from Lean on Me.
But that's unrealistic.
I'm 23 and in school for Hospitality.
In five years, I see myself working somewhere.
In ten years, I see myself working somewhere.
In 20 years, I see myself working somewhere.
It doesn't seem to vary.
I'm not sure that I'll ever leave the industry, there's far too much variety within it for that. At the moment, my career is boundless and limitless, since I have put no limits upon it. I'm hoping to travel somewhere with my work, but I haven't settled on where or how.
I've changed industries and jobs quite a few times. In Canada, last I heard, people are supposed to change careers 8 times in their life.
5 years - finish college, get into grad school
10 years - finish grad school, begin career in politics
20 years - important politician?

5 years - Either pursuing Masters or working for Google/Apple.
10 years - Either teaching Computer Science/Math at University level or working at Google/Apple.
15 years - ditto ^.
Currently I'm 18.
Well, hopefully I'll finish college in a month from now. Then I'm going for a master, but I'm not sure which one I want. It'll be in the business/economics field though.
So 2/3 years from now finish master.
5/10 years from now working for an international company.
10/20 years from now starting my own business.
Thinking about going into politics too, but there aren't really any parties I identify with and starting a new one seems like too much hassle.

That would be good, but I'm on the management and front-line side of hospitality.
There are so many options within the industry that I'm unwilling to limit myself to any particular career plan at the moment.

One of my fantasy jobs is to manage a fancy ass hotel in some exotic location, like the guy from Hotel Rwanda...uh...minus the genocide part.

5 years: have a BA in Political Science (perhaps a double or joint major).
10 years: leave the continent (assuming I'll finally have my fucking Irish citizenship), get a decent paying job in the civil service, possibly go to graduate or law school.
20 years: Either live in a densely populated urban jungle with some fancy yuppie job with the EU, or habit some cabin in rural British Columbia with a dog named Ringo and a German chick. Polar opposites, innit.
Actually, I'm also considering the military. It's absolutely against my personality in every way, so I don't understand why I would even consider the military an option, but it seems appealing in a strange way. Plus, there are great career opportunities if you have 'Canadian Armed Forces' on your resume. That'll probably not happen, though. Leave that stuff to societies ne'er do wells and have nots, right? Shucks.
ed: I'm 19, technically still in '1st year University'.
In 5 years: graduate with dentistry degree
In 10 years: open one or more practices in rural QLD
In 20 years: retire; be a stay at home dad; teach part-time; grow a beard; take drugs; write a book

I'm 21 and I'm majoring in environmental studies with a minor in geography and economics.
5 years: graduated from college
6 years: ski bum for a season
7-10 years: possibly grade school in environmental design or some kind of career
20 years: hopefully have a stable career and good enough knees to snowboard in my old age.
I figure worst case scenario i become a park ranger or something like that with my degree, which I'm perfectly content on being. Best case is being able to do something with sustainable design. Go with the flow.
I'm 20, doing a double major in math and chemical engineering
5 years- Pursuing or having completed a Ph.D. in chemical engineering
10 years- Doing research and being a professor in chemical engineering
15 years- same as 10
