Hi, i want there to be two parts to this thread.
First does anyone know how to paint knives well?
E.g Should i stick to spray or will a model orientated enamel work?
And how would you go about it because after scouring the net i have found nothing. Zilch. Zippo.
And secondly i would like to see if any of you guys have customised knives yourself via paintjobs etc.
Obviously through the medium of picturesss.
thanks guys.

Negative. I've seen some nice stuff, but I just don't have the time to learn to use my milling machine/router and then spray a custom piece. Sad.

Duracoat seems sweet only problem is that i live in England so thats not an option.
i don't want to go the whole online order/ten week wait thing.
Plastikote seems the way to go.
Anyone have any experience?
My thoughts on this are that it's going to scratch the first time you sharpen it or stick it through a piece of wood.
Even with a folder it offers no real advantage, just keep the blade clean and dry and it won't rust.
Of course, if you're just doing it to hang on the wall then by all means, don't let me stop you, and if that is the case, exactly what where you thinking of doing?

I did a used motor oil oil quench on a knife i made on my forge, it came out to be a nice flat non reflective black.

...
Because it's covered in oil, which will rub off, even after you've wiped it down.

i stuck the knife in red hot and cleaned it. there is not oil left on it:mad:

What the hell do you think the black stuff all over it is? I've handled blades fresh from hardening, the oil gets everywhere. And had you polished it up, there wouldn't be any oil left to make the blade black.

Well i have a few "just ok" knives.
The paint i want to use is a scratch-free, rust free one (as much as a paint can be :P)
And it's just for general aesthetics, not particularly wall-hanging, just a pleasant piece.

Ok, I've decided what knife and what paint.
It's an old excalibur flick (sorry no pics) and the paint is going to be a spray plasti-kote super matt in safety orange (not yet bought)
if i get the chance to go hardware store i'll do it tomoz and post pics.
otherwise well fuck it ill next weekend.
