One of the more amusing is that desmethylvanillin should react with chloroacetic acid, in its magnesium derivative, to produce b-hydroxy-3,4-dioxyphenylpropionic acid. Hoffman rearrangement of the amide would yield noradrenaline, subject to formimine methylation...
