When do you think we are going to bomb Iran? My guess is October 2008.

Really?
What did Iraq/Saddam do that deviated from the usual habit in the last 8 years? Nothing. I mean we criticized him for bombing his own people when the same people (i.e. Rumsfeld) supported him for doing it back in the day, look up the Saddam & Rumsfeld handshake photo...The only thing that changed was our belief we could get away with it...
The only thing that holds our country back is the lack of an excuse, 9/11 changed ALL of that. When the people are afraid you can do whatever you want in the name of security...To think we won't invade a country because they "haven't done anything to us" is to miss the point...
Countries don't do things to America, America does things to countries...When you're the superpower any action directed towards you is a counter action, remember, our role predicates the authority structure of the world because we hold the most power, the only difference is now 1st world countries won't go to war for two reasons:
1.) Mutual Destruction isn't worth risking
2.) Why fight each when we can gang up on the third world?
This country likes to say it needs to protect itself, bullshit, this country acts to preserve its power, different from preserving a high standard of living. Any attack against America I view as an act of self-defense. 9/11 happened because we killed too many people in the middle east, I don't agree killing people was the right answer, but the idea of an eye for eye seems justified and everyone agrees with that, just not in the context of 9/11 because people in this country don't want to admit their role as the aggressor and are too easily distracted by materialistic obsession.
Bush told people to "go out and buy stuff" after 9/11 partially because it distracts the public from real issues...BTW, anger not necessarily directed at you, just the naivety of average Americans who think they got it all down. The most enslaved people are the ones who believe they are free...
People don't need to rebel to stop all this from happening, they just need to be aware, public awareness and generalized objection is enough to stop nearly anything. The point is if we keep this imperialistic conquest of the world up this country will implode in one form or another (Do I really need to cite examples? They seem rather obvious, especially right now). The masses hold the key to their own existence, if they ever realized that just being aware is enough to change policy than problems (like Imperialism, like the war on drugs) would change, they would have to.
A Democratic system only works when EVERYONE is educated.
If everyone is against the war on drugs than a leader won't be able to support the war on drugs because HE WON'T GET ELECTED.
Education is the key. Sorry for the tirade...I got a little too involved. Spread the word of education. Its our only hope. Mass unification of progressive ideals will save us...United we stand, divided we fall....Its rather simple

Going to war with Iran is the worst possible thing we could do. The only hawks in the entire country are in the government. The Iranian people love the west and want to be more like it

Sounds like it's just about time for a regime change. Also, I heard claims that Russia destroyed Israeli fighters and bombers during it's war with Georgia...

I love you idealists. I used to be exactly like you, maybe as recently as last year. My philosophy changed because I deeply contemplated things, and I realized that there are only two things that people need to be happy. Security, and a purpose.
People break down in utter chaos without security, so they have to feel that things are secure, even if they really aren't. That's why people have locks on doors that can be easily broke down. Locks on cars that have windows that can be easily smashed, and we have media telling everyone that our national security is being taken care of. The 9/11 attacks shows you just how secure things really were, and there are still many holes in the system. Peace of mind is what people not just want, they need it. It keeps people living in harmony, and if things seemed bleak, riots would rage, and many people would be killed, women raped, etc. A world without the false sense of security is a scary place. Freedom really can't exist if you want to keep order, but people want to feel free, so we tell them they are.
Purpose is created by giving people jobs, letting them have families to take care of, and dreams to aspire to. This is obviously tied into security in a big way, as security allows for people to have all these things. The American Dream.
The ugly part, is actually maintaining security and purpose for the citizens of a country. This takes force, which is why the security of a country is tied to it's military capabilities and economy, as well as it's ability to control information and knowledge amongst the masses.
Can you honestly tell me that the majority of my western culture citizens aren't happy with their lives? They seem pretty content to me. The problem for people like us is that we know how fucked up shit really is, so we aren't content because we feel helpless in this system, like outsiders, and we think everyone around us should be worried like us. It made me want to rebel against the system for a long time, and now I'm simply shifting into a life that puts me in charge of actually running and maintaining the system. Another term for this system is called the matrix.
If you want to fight this system, be my guest, but you'll soon realize that the people who believe in this fabricated reality won't respond to you the way you think they should. Just like people who are really religious will never open their minds to the fact that religions are all manufactured by people, no divine inspiration at all. They're actually one of the original parts of the architecture of the matrix. They facilitate the purpose of giving people purpose, as well as they help create a consensus on morality, the foundation of civilization. Christianity is a magnificent form of religion, because it's variable, so society can be molded within it's teachings to satisfy the progression of humanity. Really, it's one of the greatest achievements of the Roman empire.
Where religion leaves off, media has taken over. TV, Radio, Print, and now the internet are not really much different than the Bible, and most Simpson's episodes are taken right from the Bible, lol. These are amazing tools for change and progress, but also in unifying perception of reality, morals, etc, within the general populous.
There are many more aspects of the matrix, but I'm going to stop short of writing a best selling book right here.
This brings us back to people like you and I. Those of us who live on the fringe of this system. Of course we disdain having to live with the idiot masses involved, but we do reap a lot of rewards as a result, and have the privilege of actually dictating the progress of humanity if we get on board and decide to take part.
What sets us apart from everyone else is intelligence, which has given us a strong will, and we're able to overcome and see through the matrix. Actually, part of the matrix design is to drive people like us out of the system, but at the same time it gives us a place to go, but you have to find that place yourself. Nobody is working against us in any way to prevent you from taking part in the control and direction of the matrix, but it is designed to prevent us from destroying it. That is why there is a hierarchy in the institutions running the illusion. These institutions include the Church, Government, and Media. If you work against these institutions, they will work against you, but this doesn't mean you won't be allowed to become an active member to mould these institutions.
One thing I will say though, is that the matrix isn't a conspiracy against citizens, but rather for their benefit. It's not planed out by some conspiring group of evil men either, but is rather a living system driven by it's components, Us. It's much like an organism, that manages organisms, made up of organisms, lol.
If you still don't believe me, and want to continue your endless fight against it by trying to educate from the outside, good luck. If you want to educate the masses, get inside the school board, and institute progressive changes. If you try to change things from the outside, you'll only end up realizing that without controlling media, the church, or the government, you have absolutely no way of spreading your message. Even here is a futile attempt. This place is designed to be a place for free minds to come and develop, but it doesn't work as a medium to institute change in the world very well. It's like a university for those who didn't make it into university. Two reasons why you'll get nowhere fast here. The first is that this is a very small sampling of people, and not much can be done here. Secondly, the only people you're going to convince here are people who are just like you, and you won't spread anything into the common masses. The reason for this is that they're already pre-programmed to reject anything that doesn't fit the reality they have come to know and believe. Be very cautious about deprogramming people too, cause you can mess up their heads permanently. Only help those who are already losing their belief in the false reality that is the matrix.
One thing I will add, since it has more to do with the topic of this thread, is that war has a purpose in creating peace. War can't create peace, only ideas can. However, there is more than one matrix in this world, and war is a way for us to break into the other matrix's, so that the ideas can spread. Remember, the only way to change things is from the inside, so we have to use war to get into the enemies system and assimilate it. Anyone against our matrix is an enemy, so Islamic cultures and Asian cultures are our enemies that must be vanquished. The reason why I support this militaristic way of taking out our enemies, and why I call them enemies, is because our system is variable, whereas Islamic culture/religion isn't variable. Even Asian systems like China's isn't that variable, and world peace relies on a single system, and it should be variable for best results.
