Ok, in light of my previous problems with laptop power connectors breaking i've got it in my head to do something about my new laptop to prevent this from happening again.

I've heard apple uses magnetic power connectors on some of their computers, and i've seen one adapted for a thinkpad computer on instructables (though it was a bit... shoddy).

I was thinking more along the lines of something on the power cable itself, a few inches from the connector.

The magnets i would use wouldnt be strong enough to affect a HDD unless they were in direct contact so i'm not too concerned about that.

I was thinking of using two round magnets on an RCA male and female connector and soldering the whole works in-line, cover with shrink tube.

Thoughts, ideas, questions? Am i crazy for wanting to do this on a brand new laptop?
