The original thread is here. (http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/77xp0/my_12_yr_old_daughter_is_facing_expulsion_from/)
Long story short, a seventh grade girl writes up detailed plans to kill one of her teachers (with backup plans in case the other plans fail), as well as some of her classmates. She writes these plans in a journal that she leaves at the school. Naturally somebody finds the journal and she ends up suspended and facing expulsion from her school. Her mother, in true motherly fashion, is flipping shit, accusing the school of overreacting.
Now when I was in junior high, at the bottom of the social ladder, I had indulged in the idea of killing the people that I knew who I wasn't very fond of. I understand what the young girl is going through. However, despite this I don't think the school is in the wrong. If I was that teacher, I would be extremely unnerved, teaching a student who I know wants to kill me. I'd be even more unnerved if her plans were that detailed, and they were feasible.
What are your opinions on the matter?
