Just got home from a running event and I see this plastered all over TV. I guess people already knew it during the Primaries when someone interviewed Powell about it. I mean... yeah... how are you not going to endorse what may possibly be the first black US President being a black person? But... damn. I respect Powell a lot. I originally was going to go for Barr, but just thinking about Colin Powell backing Obama makes me want to vote for Obama. Essentially, I'm in some illogical way thinking I'll be voting for Powell. :(

He was the one sane man in the Bush admin.

Well... his whole staff. Every time I watch a Documentary about the Administration planning for Iraq, the only former White House members they actually get in for interviews are people from Powell's staff. Poor guys. They all played good soldier as Powell did and now all of their careers are over.

I have no respect for Colin Powell and his endorsement.

You do know that he actually funded McCain's campaign during the primaries, right? Powell made and informed decision, and I don't believe for a second that race had a thing to do with it.

Race most likely had nothing to do with it, but a black person seriously can't sit idly by this time around while there is a really big chance that a black person can break the racial barrier for POTUS. This is the one defining moment where they have the power to overcome "the man keeping them down."

But in all honesty, I agree race had nothing to do with it. If it was purely based on race, he would have never came out on Meet The Press. He would have just voted. Coming out on Meet The Press has serious political implications.

yep, that would make sense actually. i would personally call powell a classical republican, and would be rather pissed about the state of his party at the moment

We will just have to disagree. Regardless of race having anything to do with Powell's decision, I think it is will be a landmark in race relations in this country if Obama wins, but I am very much against voting along racial lines. I'm sure you feel the same way, which is why I don't understand your tacit (as far as I can see) endorsement of such an idea because they are both black.

Scott McClellan has decided to endorse Obama also.

Sane, yeah.

Powell's chief role was to garner international support for a multi-national coalition to mount the invasion. To this end, Powell addressed a plenary session of the United Nations Security Council on February 5, 2003 to argue in favor of military action. Citing "numerous" anonymous Iraqi defectors, Powell asserted that "there can be no doubt that Saddam Hussein has biological weapons and the capability to rapidly produce more, many more."[20] Powell also stated that there was "no doubt in my mind" that Saddam was working to obtain key components to produce nuclear weapons.[20] ~ Wiki

Looks like what he's doing is nothing more than a desperate attempt to remedy the colossal fuckup that is his service under the Bushies.

its too bad that powell never ran for president, he would have been a good choice, but obviously he knew how fucked up the system is. he was smart to get out before this place got really messed up. i would probably vote for powell if he ran this year.

He did what Bush wanted him to do with the intelligence that the CIA provided him. He fucked up by working with Bush in the first place.

u cant possibly blame him for everything that he did/happened during bush's first term. those guys are under such extreme pressure that they will do pretty much w/e they are told. but i still kind of agree with you in a way that he was a part of bush's admin which was a colossal fuckup, but i dont think he has to prove anything or fix his reputation cus he was known as the only good guy in the bush admin.
