Hi, my friend left his .22 pistol outside for 4 days/nights and when i went to go get it i noticed on the magazine and some other spots there were brown/red/orangish tiny specs everywhere. I think its rust, anyone know how I fix it
please just help.. no flames as I know I am really stupid.
its mainly on the magazine a screw and the inside where the magazine slides in.

Since you asked politely though, get some fine steel wool and CLP and carefully attempt to polish it out it. Don't buff it too hard. If it's really bad, the only way to fix the problem part might be to completely refinish the part.
Oh, and in case you couldn't figure it out, it's not called a clip. Don't ever call it that again.

Magazine (a.k.a "Mag"):

If its orangy-yellow, it might come off easy, although it could have already pitted the surface.
Do what he says. Then rub in generous amounts of grease, and keep the parts under observation for a week or so to see if they develop rust again. If they do you might consider a rust- preventive treatment (they sell them at gun stores in spray cans).
Incidentally, could you post pics of your gun? so we can better evaluate your problem?
Thanks,
Lava.

I'll put pics if I can find a camera
hah ok magazine...
what is CLP?
haha sorry I have no knowledge about guns except point and shoot
if I leave it as it is will it continue to rust to the point of not working if I dont do something?
because i really dont care how it looks as long as it shoots.
anywhere besides gun stores to get the spray?

Breakfree CLP is a gun cleaner:

I buy mine at Walmart for $4.
It does a decent job of removing rust if you allow it to "soak into" the pores of the metal and then scrub with 0000 steel wool.
You MUST use 0000 steel wool or you will scratch the hell out of you gun.
if I leave it as it is will it continue to rust to the point of not working if I dont do something?
The magazine, generally being made out of (relatively) thin sheet steel, is particularly prone to structura failure from rust. I suggest you remove it before the problem becomes grave.

Other working parts like the extractor, springs, sear ect will also screw up sooner or later if left to rust and stop the pistol working. Even if you only have a very basic knowledge of guns it will only take you 2 or 3 minutes to feild strip it, brush out the unburn powder and carbon with a toothbrush and give everything a light coat of oil, you don't even NEED to clean the inside of the barrel (Although i highly recommend doing so).
If you're unsure how to feild strip it, get a buddy to show you or take it to a gunshop and ask them to show you, or if you look around you can find owners manuels for almost anything online which will tell you step by step how to do it. Don't be worried about not getting it back together it's usually a very simple process ;) .
Depending on the weather in your area, how it is stored and a bunch of other factors, it might last less than a year before you get malfunctions and/or broken parts. Spend TWO minutes after you shoot it like i mentioned above and it will probably still be shooting in 10 years time.
There are also many videos on YouTube that detail the field stripping process for various weapons.
I just found out a few moments ago that the video which I first used to learn how to disassemble and reassemble my Mosin bolt has been deleted. Bummer. :(

And the military uses CLP, so....
It's a solvent. It doesn't really matter much what you use as long as it works.

Yes, CLP is the shit also. But it damn near costs more than it's worth for other stuff out there. But i'd use that shit too if it was given to me.

Nope. You need a replacement.
