Sounds like The Big Lebowski to me. When John Goodman spreads Steve Buscemi's ashes and Jeff Bridges gets a face full of it. But I think he calls him "sweet prince" in that, not "captain". So, might be a different flick that you are thinking of.

What country was the movie from? It may have been The Big Lebowski, which is a movie that I too have seen and wanted my time back for, but I it may not have been. I am sure I saw a foreign film, maybe from Australia or something that had the scene with the spreading ashes. I noticed you're from Australia, so it might that.

I'm trying to track down a film featuring a hoodlum in a suit with a pearl handled Colt 1911 knock off going on a roadtrip with his lover to take a talking Stork back to it's home. It was French if I recall correctly, but the Stork was Polski. It wasn't at all like Nichtsewo.
