I know we had a thread kinda about the Sox vs. Rays but we need to move. This thread is for any talk about this years world series.

As most of you know who were in the last thread I'm excited my home team is finally doing well and whether we win or lose we did a hell of a job this year, hope full this year of first keeps on producing and gives us our first World Series title. If we do I'm pretty sure I can get a ring which would be fucking sick.

StarWarsNerd, we meet again. First off, congrats dude. Yankees are my 1 and only team and i stick to them no matter what, but since they didnt make the playoffs this season, the RAYS became the team i was rooting for and holy shit have they impressed. Im not even gonna lie, when the season first began and they were the best team in baseball through the first 10, 20, 30 games, i said to myself, "eventually they're gonna flop. Somewhere along the season they're gonna fail.'' Fucking hell was i wrong. They have shut my mouth. When Boston won game 2 at Trop i also said, "fuck. here it comes. theyre gonna fuck up here," and they didnt!! Then they had those 2 blowouts and then boston came back from that 7 run deficit in game 5 and again, having gone by what they did to us yankees fans in 04 [down 3 games to none and came back ], i said "Shit! Not now Rays. NOT NOW!" And fucking christ they came through. Hopefully they go all the way. Game 1 will be a huge one if they can pull it out 'cause hamels has fucking been enlightened during these playoffs. Anyhow LETS FUCKING GO RAYS!

Pretty disappointed about tonight's game, though I'm still very optimistic, lets go Rays!

Woot!!!! Rays all the way

But I am somewhat surprised that there has not been more debate over the officials.

Like the balk that was never called in the first game?

Or the strikeout that was deemed to be a walk. Just how did that happen?

And the "hit by pitch" that no one seemed to notice, not even the batter?

Not that any of those would have changed the outcome of either game, but damn! are there no opinions on any of these questionable calls???

Phillies lead series 2-1 wooooh!

that was a good game though despite the loss. really entertaining. Even I can admit that the ref did fuck up and Moyer deserved that out on Upton, that was a sick play. Though stealing 2nd, 3rd and home was pretty embarasing.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! I love it, Howard can't hit homers all post season but when the phils really need it he comes through, 5-1 in the 5th. If the phillies win tonight, its over.

Im for the Rays all the way, but i do agree with you. As I mentioned in my previous post, i didnt think they would go all the way and they sure as hell are proving me right all though the game/series isnt over :( ...

Back to back homers baby Werth than Howard......at 10 to 2 in the 8th I think it fair to say this game is over.

Hamels should have tomorrow locked up, but we shall see.

Looks like they're gonna have to pull a Boston-in-'04 type of comeback. Three games......except this is in the WS :(

PS: And Longoria? Wtf do i give a guy a contract 6 days after he's brought up to the majors if he's no good when he matters MOST?

lol@the rays

I'll be at game five. Expect rioting. Expect the Tampa Bay Rays to be killed on Market Street and their bodies cut apart and thrown in the pier.

I am so excited!!!

I quit following the Phillies when the greats retired--Bedrock, Lefty Carlton, and especially Michael Jack Schmidt, greatest third baseman ever--but am very happy at the prospect of their winning the World Series.

Go Phils!

Some interesting statistics. Lord knows I'm not the greatest of sports fans, but I do so love the numbers.

STATISTICS:
Historically, nearly half (I think the number is like 48%) of all World Series have gone 7 games, and only about 10% to 12% have beeen settled in 4 or 5 games. But hey, no matter what the odds, it could all be over tonight. I doubt it very much.

KARMA:
Yeah, it MAY have been a "bad choice" to go for the runner at third instead of going to second for a maybe double play, but given the lead-off and speed of the runner at third, my bet is that a run would have scored on that play before the third out would have been recorded.

The point of this point is that if there IS such thing as Karma, any further "bad" calls will go in favor of the Rays; maybe not this season, but maybe next.

SEXUALITY:
Speaking of bad calls, my only assumption can be that, for the third base ump, a tag on the ass does not count for any official with some serious homophobic issues. 'nuff said ???

Go Phils!

I wish I was alive during that era, I always heard stories from my high school baseball coach who played with Mike Schmidt about those times.

Anyways, I didn't go to the game. I was planning on tailgating but I've had a stomach bug the past few days and have no desire to sit out in the rain, drunk. Hopefully the game isn't gonna get rained out...Go Phils!

Just a quick p.s. to my earlier post regarding statistics...

Someone please prove me wrong, but I do think that this has been the first time in MLB history that any team has ever won/lost TWO World Series games on the same date.

Never mind that one started the day before the second; The Rays lost at 2 am on Sunday for a game that started late on Saturday and lost another during normal time on Sunday... they were both lost/won Sunday October 26, 2008.

When it comes to baseball, there are records being broken and set just about every five minutes. I wouldn't doubt the one you're talking about is in the books.

What a job the Rays have pulled off this season. Even though they lost the world series, going from worst to first is quite an accomplishment. There's always next season...The Phillies on the other hand needed this win. Nothing feels better than finally breaking a curse (if that's what you even want to call it).

Good job overall for both teams, and this was one hell of a good postseason to watch for both the NL and AL.

Besides being agreat ball player, Schmidt was a great guy--a good family man, he used to drive his kids to school. There was never any hint of scandal about him, and the only products he endorsed were milk, Levi's, and Chevrolets.

He did strike out an awful lot and was a streaky hitter, and the fans were rough on him. Once during a time like this, he came out on the field in a rasta dreadlock wig.
