Unfortunately i live in the UK.
I know a bit about firearms and have handled quite a few.
I have always fantasized about moving to a more gun-appreciative country where i would probably purchase a remington 700.
Now my question is anything about power, accuracy or calibre but rather what does one feel like?
Unfornately i have never fired one or used one in any way.
They just strike me as quite remarkable rifle.
So in conclusion.
How does one "feel" to you?
And where does it sit in your collection?

Out of comparable Savage and Winchester models, it has the smoothest factory action. This can be enhanced by silicone grease on the contact surfaces. They have an adjustable trigger right out of the box. They're cock on open.
Aside from that, it comes down to what stock you have. I have the HS precision tactical, which feels a little fat in the grip, so some may prefer a HS varmint stock or a McMillan or something.
They are great rifles. I don't know what you intend to use it for. If you are going to make a long range tactical rifle out of it there are some modifications you might want to make to it like printing and truing the action and recrowning the barrel.
They are available in most calibers. I like .308 or .300 Win Mag.
I prefer a Savage. Out of the box they tend to print better than a Remington. However, they are not as smooth, nor do they feel as good in the hands.
As a hunting rifle, the 700 is wonderful in every way that it can be. While there are better rifles out there, one would be hard pressed to find better quality for the money.

Remington 700's look nice and feel nice too depending of the stock, but personally i'm not a fan of them. It seems common knowledge (especially in long range communities) that quality has dropped in recent years and as a result accuracy has suffered, which is why most people will recommend having the action blue printed if you're planning of shooting long range, Myself i don't like the idea of spending $1300 - $2200AU just to have to spend another few hundred just to make it shoot like it should out of the box.
I brought one about 2 years ago and spend most of my time wishing i'd brought another Savage Model 10 instead, not only are the savages more accurate but also quite a bit cheaper and if you wanted to you can change the barrels on them yourself quite easily.
I also don't like the new X-Mark Pro trigger on the Rem700's, IMHO they're a piece of crap after using the Savage accu-trigger. I've actually been trying to sell the R700 for a couple of months so i can replace it with a Rem 7615P but cant get a decent price (Paid $1200, it's fired 500 rounds and in perfect condition and the best price i've been ofered so far is $550AU with 1" leupold QD rings and bases).
So in conclusion.
I wouldn't recommend a R700 to someone, Savages are cheaper, more accurate and have a lot better trigger, the trade off is that they're ugly compared to a R700 and for the most part have a blind magazine (You have to cycle the action to unload the mag vs dropping a floor plate) although some models come with detachable mags.

You know how it felt when you grabbed your first tit? It feels like that every time you pick up a rem 700.
But seriously, their good guns, the feel just depends on the setup. You can get an ultra-lightweight rifle or a heavy as all fuck fat barreled long range tack driver. I've only handled ones with a factory synthetic or wood stock though, and they dont seem that much different than other brands.

I love mine! I have a 700VLS (varmint, laminate stock) in 22-250REM. Its a little older, still the glossy blued finish on the barrel and gloss finish on the stock. When I do my part it shoots 1/2" groups. The stock fits me well, the action is smooth, and the trigger is not as light as the custom trigger on my savage but it has a great break. I have also heard that the quality of new 700's has dropped off but can't vouch for it personally. I would love to find one exactly like mine but chambered in 25-06. that would make a great varmint hammer. My friend bought a Christenson(sp?) rifle built on a 700 action and it is so very sweet.

IMO a basic 700 out of the box feels like crap. Its fairly accurate, but the bolt is stiff and gritty, so is the trigger. They are usually light, and that means recoil.
