Long story short

I enrolled for two Universities.
Got accepted into the better one
School starts
Then lesser school calls me up, asks if I'm attending that school. I say no and they tell me to drop all my classes. I do.

A few months later I find out they are trying to charge me a penalty fee for the classes i dropped.

So I call them up, playing stupid, ask them why I'm being charged. They explained and said I can get a reimbursement for the penalty fee if i write them an explanation to why the classes were drop so late and attach proof I'm attending another institution.

I call them back again for their since forgot it. I started by playing stupid again and asking why I'm being charged. They explained and I asked if there was anyway to get around the penalty fees. This time they said no. So i just asked for their address and hanged up.

So wtf now? I'm not even sure if i can get reimbursed for the fees. Normally i would just say fuck it and not pay for it, but they have my address, name, etc. Plus I may have to go crawling back to them in a few months in the event the I fail the current school I'm attending.

I'll prepare a letter just in case, but what should I put in my explanation?
The truth is, i enrolled in both to secure myself a spot in the even i dont get accepted into the better university. When i did, i just said fuck the other one, even though I should have called and told them I'm no longer attending. I would have too if their phone service wasn't so crappy since they usually put you in line for like 30 minutes.
Now if i put that no fucken way they would give me a reimbursement, so TOTSE, can anyone offer me a better and beleivable explanation (no dead family members or hospitals)?
BTW the lesser university is significantly further than the one im currently attending.

I did. That doesnt solve my problem of a finding an excuse or getting rid of the penalty fees.

You must've decided REALLY late on which school you were going to if you actually made up a schedule with the other one. I accepted enrollment at my school in the spring, declined the other places, and never spoke with them again. Then made my college schedule in late summer, starting classes like a month later. I don't understand how you could be concurrently talking to two different schools and making schedules. Why?

I guess you should've called the other school to tell them you wouldn't be enrolling. The fact you didn't puts you at fault. And then you had a second chance, and you "forgot."

Still, I guess I would write a letter saying why you are not paying the fees. State that you never attended a class at the university, and are currently attending a different school, attaching proof of enrollment. Explain to them (perhaps lying) that someone in their office told you this would suffice in getting reimbursed for the fees, and maybe say if it will not, you will be contacting your attorney. They don't want to go to the wall for 500 bucks. If they do, ignore them. Again, I'd doubt they would take it to collections and even still, you could avoid paying shit.

Use this as a motivation to NOT fail out of your current school.

That's just what I would do.

Actually I never got a second chance at getting dropping those courses. I dropped out as soon as the called me. Otherwise, whocares123's points are all valid.

I mean you said you called them the first time, they told you how to get reimbursed, and then you neglected to do it. Called them a second time, and they didn't give you that option again because it was too late or whatever.

No i called them a second time to get the address to send it to. I asked if there was a way to get around it again to make sure i can. ATM i dont know. the calls were two days separated from each other. Maybe this is one of those things were it depends who you get on the other line.
