I drive a 1998 Ford Escort Sport, and whenever I hit anything around 70, my car starts shaking, like if I get it up to 100, its shaking so violently I can't even see out of my mirrors. My first thought is that its something with the suspension on older cars of a similar type, because other car from a similar time had that issue too. Any suggestions on fixing it? Other than not going 70 of course.

I know what your problem is. It's a ford escort. It's not meant to go that fast.

It could be many things. A wheel could need balancing, a brake rotor or drum could be warped, a strut or other suspension component could be loose or broken, a CV shaft joint could be going bad, etc........

My car shook badly at 60-70mph and it turned out that the top bolt on the drivers side strut was loose. After jimmy rigging a spark plug socket with a ratchet extension with a 10mm socket stuck through it and a wrench on it i got it tightened and it is smooth as glass now.

I haven't fucked with an escort in a long time so i dont remember how the suspension is set up but you should just go around and make sure there are no missing wheel weights and that there is no mud/debris stuck inside any of the rims. If that fails then start checking all the bolts on any suspension components. if they are all tight then i would bring it into a good shop and let them check it out.

oh, if you find anything loose tighten it up and put some red locktite on it. Or use blue locktite if you dont plan on removing it again without heating it and using lots of force.

Don't red loctite anything unless you are absolutely motherfucking %100 sure you don't want it coming back out.

I thought Red loctite was removable and blue was permanent? Or did I get them confused?

You've got it backwards.

Blue = Removable.

You've got it backwards.

Blue = More Easily Removable.

Fixed. Protip: Three hours to split and strip a Porsche block held together with studs COVERED in red loctite. Oh PB Blaster, how I love you.

is red really that strong?
I can't imagine a thin semi-dried semi-liquid locktite film being stronger than a metal wrench with 200 foot- pounds torque.

Personally, I've used red and blue and both seem fairly weak , though I bought my bottles at discount because they beyond the expiration dates.

The idea is you'll strip the heads before you get to apply 200 foot pounds. Then you will never get it out.

Generally speaking, high speed vibration is due to something being out of balance. I'd check the wheels and CV joints/halfshafts.

thats definitly true, but i had a 94 escort that would do about 105 without shaking so, there is something wrong with his.

Maybe later I'll post some videos of manly, European Mk1 and Mk2 Ford Escorts rallying in response to this.

First problem is your driving a 1998 Ford Escort, make sure your wheels are aligned, make sure all 4 tires are the same size, and I dont mean look at them and compare the sizes, get the number off the tire and make sure they are the same width, etc

All of my experiences with loctite are the same as Hung Like Christ's, except they've been new bottles.

There are a huge amount of videos out there with Mk1 and Mk2 European Escorts rallying and drifting. They are still very popular in mainland Europe and Ireland.

Check the face of the tyres, they have a tendency to go outta shape.
Causes vibration.
(The cheapest and easiest thing to check first.)
Jack it up and run your hand over the surface while rotating it slowly. If it vibrates as bad as you say it does and this is the cause?...You'll notice it.
