Anyone going to see this? I might go and see it for matinee prices next week, but I wanted to get some more opinions on it now that it's out. I rented 1 when it first came out, and saw 2-4 in theaters. So far I'd rank them 1>4>2>3. Part 1 was an above average, unique horror movie, but I've got no illusions: all of the sequels were mediocre at best, and this is get-rich-quick at its finest. But still, they're pretty entertaining, it's now a 5-year tradition, and it's cool to be a part of one of those neverending sequel-a-thons.

Only reason I'm hesitant about this one is that I hear it adds nothing to the overall story, and basically just drags out what was basically concluded in #4 (again, get-rich-quick at its finest :p).

If you pay any money for this, you do not appreciate films. This series is a prime example of the MPAA profiting off of someones art... art in which they wanted to stop working on a long time ago.

I agree with the first half of this post. But the first one was fucking great, second one was like...mehh? Why'd you make another? Then the third one was like, "fuck dude, this seriously sucks...wait...is that brain surgery?"

Yeah...the brain surgery was perhaps the worst thing I have ever seen in a movie. It wasn't at all that it was "gory" (there have been much worse things in movies), but the fact that they felt the need to put a fucking brain surgery on the screen just to try to shock/entertain the audience? Fuckin' DICKS.

I watched it.

For me, it's the worst of the 5. They really are dragging things out. This movie just gives a very small amount of backstory to what happened in 4. The ending is crap and doesn't even set up for the next movie. They kill almost everyone off, probably so they can start a new slate for 6. And once again, the victims all die because they're stupid and don't think things through.

Boring, formulaic, unnecessary.

And no, I did not pay money to watch this.

Yeah, that's what I hate about all the other movies. Any character you start to like or get interested in gets killed off. They even brought back Donnie Wahlberg's character from his implied death just so they could have him get pwned in an extended cameo two movies later. If all of the characters were just 2D dumbasses, I wouldn't care much, but they kind of force you to get involved with the main cop characters...so it just becomes really fucking annoying when they keep getting killed off.

Meh. Saw it yesterday because Burn After Reading was fully booked. It was fairly crappy. The "game" element was unbelievably rushed and shitty with 5 different rooms with fairly uninteresting traps. And the "game" element was completely irrelevant to the main plot about the two cops. But that was done so half ass I didn't care either way which survived and which died. And it had far too much back story that just crowed up the plot because they clearly didn't have enough decent material to fill up the main plot. Poor poor film. There wasn't even any inventive gore scenes. Just the standard decapitations, bodies getting chopped in half and nail bombs. It's like they're not trying.

It was a whore movie.

It's like going to the street corner, picking up a fifty year old hooker and having horrible sex.

But it was your choice.

The director didn't give a fuck about making a good movie, he just threw shit out and assembled it.

All the deathtraps were probably rejected ones from the second movie.

Man, these movies are a goldmine.

As of now, Saw V's opening weekend is about the same as all of the previous entries. Even if it hardly goes up at all, it's still a 20 million dollar profit. They didn't even have a real trailer for this movie, just some brief TV teasers, yet 30 million dollars worth of people still showed up to see it opening weekend.

I'm legitimately curious to see just how much steam this series has. It looks like the total domestic gross has constantly been decreasing, and this movie doesn't look like it'll be an exception, but given that they'll be able to start from a clean-slate with the next movie, I'm betting they might be able to get a lot more interest in part 6.

Anyways, I DO hope that they change things up a bit with part 6. Nothing too drastic, but I at least hope they get rid of that god-awful rotating, flashing camera bullshit. I'd also like to see some more creative traps too, not just gore-oriented ones. No matter how complex their Rube Goldberg traps got, I don't think any of them were as awesome as the bathroom scenario in Part 1. They need to think of more things like that. (The opening trap in Part 4 was pretty creative though, albeit short-lived, obviously)

SAW Sucks man. A stupid plot. Basically just a gore fest. Personally I'd rather watch cunts die on theync.com then watch special effects .

I got dragged along to the last two by my friend who is obsessed with these pieces of shit. But after guessing the blatantly obvious twist at the start of SAW IV, I sure as shit won't be wasting any more money on these pieces of crap.
And for the record, the first one wasn't that good, just because the series has got worse, it doesn't mean it started well.

Spoiler...

Okay I got confused, at the end of the movie which one was safe in the box? The guy with the hole in his neck or the other one? Because I thought that was the big twist, they make you think one is the bad guy the whole time then it turns out the other is, but my Tc said the guy that got smashed had the hole in his neck

i have never understood why anyone likes SAW... the first one kicked anyone with a brain in the balls with the 'lets make the most irrelevant character ever the bad guy' move and the rest went on to kick the retards balls in with ever more increasingly illogical plot twists...

fuck saw and fuck all the people who go and see it every halloween...

Yer the original was kind of good because it was something a little bit different.

But now they're just trying to milk it for all its worth.

I agree with most of the other posters that Saw V wasn't great but
certain parts I liked.

Just got around to seeing this tonight. I liked it quite a bit actually. I mean, people said it was the weakest entry, and I'd say definitely not. It was stronger than 3, had some decent traps, and I thought the backstory was kind of interesting. Not as interesting as Part 4's backstory, where they showed how Jigsaw got started, but interesting nonetheless.

And maybe I just forgot, but...Jigsaw is a fucking asshole. Yeah, some, perhaps even many of the people he puts in traps were scumbags, but like...all of the cops in these movies get fucked over HARD just for going after Jigsaw. Hell, it's almost like the writers want the cops to be the villains. If I remember correctly, Donnie Wahlberg's character was just a rough guy that got fucked over several times just because he wanted his kidnapped son back. They even brought him back from the dead just so they could have his head get crushed. What the fuck? Or the two characters in part 1...the one guy was supposed to get killed by the doctor just because he photographed people? And the doctor was supposed to cut off his leg just because...he told Jigsaw he had terminal cancer. Or the guy in the intro to part 2...he was a photographer as well, wasn't he? Jigsaw is a fucking DICK.

Meh, like I said, I probably just forgot, and seeing all of the cops Jigsaw had killed lined up must have made me remember all of Jigsaw's dickery. You can feel pleased about these movies when it ends with some asshole getting owned (part 3), but having fairly likeable good guys constantly get a dick up their ass....not good.
