Yes. It can be made from MCat. Pretty easily, except that bitchin' amine-protection you've got to attempt.

Typically, total syntheses of methcathinone start with benzene. JP suggests that you start with toluene instead and p-alkylate it somehow (though I'm sure there's a way to do it).

Ideally, the easiest way would probably be friedel-crafts addition of a haloethanoic acid to the benzene (toluene), followed by alpha rehalogenation, lead acetate distillation, and a reactive metal hydroxide wash, in some order, to yield the corresponding 4-methyl-P-1-ol-2-propanone.

My only concern with this would be o-alkylation and the difficluty in separating those two out.

IIRC Mephedrone is also known as metacathinone, which synthesis is piss easy, you need practically zero anything to make it. Using such exotic chemicals like NaOH, HCl, pseudoepehedrine, KMnO4 and IPA. :D
