What's the best way to make a good martini, and what would OI recommend me?
I just had word that I won 3 Bottles in a raffle:
Wyborowa Vodka
Beefeater Gin
Jack Daniels.
What can I make with those options?
I was thinking of making a martini, but I'm not sure. I still need to buy cocktail glasses.
To make a real martini you'll need vermouth. Personally I prefer to use my gin for a gin & tonic, but that's just a matter of personal preference.
Vodka ... screwdriver much? Simply vodka & orange juice.
Personally I think Jack Daniel's is terrible but hell, make a whiskey sour, Jack & Coke, or just pound straight shots.

Gin and Orange juice/mango juice is a tasty treat.
My favorite cocktail: Jack Daniels + Ice cubes.

Dear God, you need to drink more.
I'd dare say JW Red is better on the rocks.
Have some JW Black Label on the rocks, or a nice bourbon. Even Wild Turkey is good if you've got a sweet tooth.

Disagree.
Bourbons are entirely different creatures to scotch.

I know they are. They're better than the tripe he is drinking on the rocks though. There's no way you could get the rich fruits, honey or peat flavours that you can get out of a scotch. I wasn't comparing them.

Sure. But bourbon mixes very well with cola.
Scotch does not.
Ballantines and coke is just foul.

I guess you could mix bourbon with cola. I just personally prefer it on its own.

People look at me like I'm insane when I tell them I prefer bourbon to scotch. Good bourbon, I mean. Granted I've never had any shamelessly priced $200+ bottle of single malt scotch but I have certainly had good quality products of both families of whiskey/whisky and enjoy my top-shelf bourbons more than similarly priced or somewhat higher priced scotch.

Gimlet:
2 oz. Gin
1/2 oz lime cordial
1 lime wedge
kinda girly for my liking, but I thought I should just add SOMETHING to shut "certain people" up.
Stay on topic--- the favourite whisky/whiskey thing always gets brought up EVERY damn cocktail thread...
EDIT: and FTR, I like JD, but I also like JW RL, as well as Wild Turkey, and Beam. All straight.

what to make with vodka? more like what not to make with vodka. seriously, what ever drink you have on hand, add some vodka, it should set ya straight. i like two parts vodka, 1 part spicy v8 in the morning after a rough night
for the bourbon, i usually mix it 2 part bourbon, 1 part cranberry juice, one part sweet vermouth. dash of soda. yummy
an as far as the gin goes, just pour it down the drain. replace it with pinesol floor cleaner an sell it to the neighbor kids. trust me they will never know;)

Oh dear.
The Bellerose (invented by me at a highschool party)
half oz grenadine
1 oz vodka
squirt lemon juice in till it turns cloudy
a can of regular coke
if you use good lemon juice it's amazing, if you use the shitty kind it tastes like butter for some reason.
stick the jack in the freezer, get some juice for the vodka, and you're on your own for the gin...
when the jack is nicely cold, line up some shots and enjoy...
pomegranate blueberry juice goes great with vodka..

i never understood why people chill their bourbon. to me it mask a lot of the subtle smokey an tangy aromas.
but i guess this is a free country an to each his own. but if you want to experience the full sensory rush of bourbon i suggest you serve it room temperature

Indeed.
Chilling alcohol is a bit of a fad nowadays. Nothing wrong with it if it's a really low standard bourbon -- why you'd buy such a thing for flavour though...
Not many people appreciate the complex flavours found in alcohols now. If it's cold like you said, it maskes the flavour and dulls the tastebuds further.
