Anyone know any books that don't don't focus on plot so much as interactions between a variety of interesting characters? I enjoyed both of the books in the thread title and would like to read more of them.

Have you read the sequel to Cannery Row, Tortilla Flat? Probably my favorite Steinbeck title.

That sounds good. I've liked every book by Steinbeck so I'm sure I'll like this one. I'll have to pick it up some time.
