View Full Version : Help with internet cafe's router
Okay, so I got to this internet cafe's router's webpage. With all the options there, I decided to have a look to see if I could get rid of the time limit of one hour. (3600 seconds)
I found under DHCP>DHCP Server>Lease time.
Which was 3600 seconds. I changed it to 10,000, saved it.
Now, it didn't come up with a message saying I needed to reset the router. Does anyone here know if this would have worked, or is it much more advanced? This just seems a little too simple.
If you've already changed it, why don't you just test it?

Well if he had any common sense he would have googled it first :P

You actually need to change it on the other end -- on the router/DHCP server. You just made your machine not ask for the router to renew the DHCP lease (IP assignment).
Your IP will be reassigned to someone else if they get another customer, and you'll lose your connection, more often than not.

This is why I hate DHCP so much....

The first thing I'd have done is put my MAC address in a whitelist.

I imagine that there is at least one staff machine, and It would be logical to assume that that machine never has to pay for internet. If you spoofed your MAC address to that machines, then would that work?

see if you can find a list of IP addresses that are connected to the router.
Come back over several days and make a note of the IP addresses that are frequently there.
You would need to get the MAC address then, I belive you could do this by pinging the IP you wanted to know and they examineing your arp cache for a new one (obviously look at it before pinging and then again after)
With this router, there's a page with all the machines connected, and it's got the MAC address right next to the IP..
