So yeah i dont know how well known this is globally, but in my country (New Zealand) its very popular.

We dont really have many of our own ethnic dishes from our British heritage and theirs a few maori foods, but the general public arent into them, however we do have alot of diversity of food (but thats just plaguerised off other countries becsue its very multi cultural). Exept for this the chip sandwitch.

And ozzies if u think this belongs to you you can fuck off.

Basically you need

-Any potato chip
-Any sandwitch bread
-Marmite/Vegemite
-Butter/Margerine (optional)
-Cheese (optional)

Thats pretty much it, if u use cheese microwaev it for a bit so it melts.

they arent really neccecarry though because they add alot of fat.

peace.

edit: you Americans could probably do this as a grilled sandwitch it would be nice

Growing up I used to make sandwiches with Bologna, cheese, and copious amounts of potato chips. If my mood was right, ketchup was also a possibility.

Sometimes I put chips in my sandwiches, but I don't think I'd specifically make a chip sandwich...

Except for the wicked saltiness? I used to make PC/Dill Pickle/Cheddar samiches. The salt throws me off them though. :(

Haha, I wouldn't know where it comes from but I have been making them since I was little. Just one of those things I decided to try one day, anouncing my discovery to my friends I soon found out I wasn't the first to try it. Chances are New Zealand is just the first country to have a lot of bored people making random sammiches.

Sometimes I have brought two cheese burgers at Mcdonalds (musta been on a deal or something).
Taken the base off both burgers, piled chips on in a row, covered them with free tomato sauce & topped it off with the other burger base.

I call it 'A chip sandwich'. nice

i do something similar.

instead, i divide the fries between all the pieces of bread, then i put everything else between the two slices of meat for a meat sandwich

Sometimes Kebab shops around here put chips in their rolls, I find it to be quite gross though.

Putting some crisps in a sandwhich is quite nice, although I only ever seen the British do it.

They do that here, too. It's a cheap way to skimp on the more expensive ingredients, like meat, while retaining size. I always pass on the chips.

When you say "potato chips" are you talking about what Americans call french fries, or what Americans call potato chips, and Brits call crisps?

As a kid, I'd eat bologna sandwiches, with mayonnaise, and would put doritos and other chips in there...I guess now I'll put fries on a fast food sandwich if I feel inclined to. But never just chips and bread...and vegemite!? God, I've bought two jars of that stuff over the internet in my life and could barely touch either.

crisps.

thin peices of potato that've been deep fried.

we also call the other version 'chips' (aussie).

fish&chips..

but yeah,
it's australian.

however, since new zealand doesn't have anything,
the maoris like to eat it alot.

Yeah that's a good staple over here too. Put some chips (crisps) into your sammich to give it a little something extra.

I like putting cheese and onion chips into ham sammiches.

In NZ that's all I ate for lunch, and not one New Zealander that I spoke to knew it or did it. I learnt it off a Scottish dude. *edit* and he learnt it while working at a pearl farm in the Northern Territory of AUSTRALIA (ha :) )

I made them with sour cream and chives chips, shaved chicken breast, thousand island dressing, two types of cheese, more chips, ceasar salad dressing more chips, then shaved silverside.

Yeah, I was pretty fucked up when I first discovered that.

bread slice
cheese
chips
pickles
bologna
bread slice

In that order (top to bottom)

Put it in the oven or toaster oven until the cheese is well melted. Don't use a food destroyer (microwave) to do this.

Put some ketchup on it.

Yum.

Long roll w/turkey, cheese, cole slaw, and potato chips.
toasting will ruin it.
Yum.
