I was pondering about this. He had a grenade thrown at him in Georgia. It was wrapped in a red cloth. Could it be a message from the Russians considering the opposing views the US and Russia have on the country?

Probably not the actual government of Russia but it certainly could have been a sympathizer with Russia's cause. Keep in mind this was 3 years ago and relations between the U.S. and Russia were not as chilly as they are today.
If Russia's government were to do it I'd expect something more subtle like radiation poisoning or a diseased hooker.

it was an isolated incident involving a "lone gunman" of sorts. Russia has more to gain from Bush, well not the people but the current political insitutions in power. They can use the artificially genereated threat, rally their people consolidate their power and expand the defense budget. Exactly what we did during the Cold War
Since when did foreign relations between Russia and the USA become chilly again? Each knows exactly what the other is doing at all times and there is a constant open line of discussion between the two. Russia has an embassy in the US as we do in Russia. North Korea and the USA is what I consider chilly. Kim Jong Il could be very well dead and the government he left behind is running the country and we'd never know.
