Since I've discovered that my George Forman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine could be used as a panini press, I've been going crazy with them.

So here we share our favorite pressed sandwich ideas.

Mine is:

Zucchini
Pesto
Spinach
Soy cheese
Capers
On Sourdough.

Fucking win to the moon. First I grill the zucchini on the grill till it's soft then I assemble the sandwich and grill that. Nom nom nom.

Capers...interesting. Seems they'd be a bit clashing with the other flavors.

I tend to press most of my sandwiches anymore. I make them in my larger cast iron skillet, and just set my smaller one on top. I turn them, since I'm not into heating my smaller one just to press. The results are pretty similar to a panini.

My favorite recipe? Ham (decent deli sliced of possible), Swiss, and Dijon on sourdough. Goes well with damn near any side, I've found.

I eat capers by the spoonful, I like them on anything.

Today I switched the capers for dill pickles and it wasn't great. I need something saltyish for in my samichesss.

It's called a sandwich, unless you have to order one in Italy I really don't see why you would wanna call one a panini, it's like people calling milk a latte, it immediately gives you a PhD in douchebaggery.

I wasn't trying to sound fancy, I was just under the impression that after you pressed and grilled a sandwich it was called a panini.

Or any place that has it listed on the menu as a panini-pressed sandwich. Or any sandwich made on a machine called a panini press.

It's colloquially known as a panini in many places aside from Italy.

Sounds good.

Capers are good on pizza.

At least 60% of the time my George Foreman is on it's because I'm pressing a sandwich, though before I had a GF grill, I would use a clothes iron... srsly

I never get to fancy, just sourdough bread, some kind of meat(chicken, roast beef, whatever), cheese(colby jack, though if I had some I would use gouda ), and if I'm feeling dangerous maybe some bacon.

A panini is a type of roll that presses well.

I like some cheese on mine.

I bought my press a year ago and it was the best idea I've ever had. Cuban subs and mozzarella meatball subs rock my fucking world.

No, it was a gift from my grandmother. She bought it and couldn't figure out how to use it

Haha. You should try pressing a real sandwich in it. It adds to the flavours of everything involved and gives you the opportunity to spice your sandwiches.

Yeah the capers don't make sense to me either. Its not a real well thought out recipe though, just the dude's favorite things all between some sourdough. Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with that, just saying...

Well I've never heard the word panini before, and frankly it sounds like something a gay stripper would wear to a night club. Anyways, I will assume you're all talking about those waffle press things without the waffle grids in them. I have one, and its pretty awesome. My favorite thing to do it butter up 2 or 4 pieces of bread, cut up a ton of motzerlla, and then put some pizza sauce on top. Press it down and you've got a mini panzerotii that taste awesome.

I'm kind of biased against paninis because they serve them at the cafeteria here and well, they generally suck like everything else. Though I do like this italian panini thing, which is like a panini version of an italian sub, of sorts. I think it's got salami, pepperoni, some kind of cheese, and banana peppers on it.

Generally I feel cold sandwiches should stay cold sandwiches. You've always got grilled cheese, and all the various lunch meats you can add to that. And that's where it ends.

I've been searching desperately for something salty to finish it off and capers has worked best so far. Olives were too salty and pickles were just ick.

Anchovies is such a good idea. I've had a tin in the back of my cupboard and couldn't think of anything to do with them. I'll try this later.

anchovies? they are great. salty with a little taste of the sea to enhance the pesto and spinach. also substitute soy cheese for something else, personally i would put feta or provolone

edit: Damn assholes beat me to anchovies, you could also use salted cod which is popular in Portuguese cuisine i forget the exact name of it, but it is another great salty seafood

The soy cheese is because I try to eat vegan as much as possible. It really doesn't taste all that bad. It doesn't really taste like cheese per se, but it adds a creamy factor.

I'm going to try the anchovies right nyaaa.

A lot of fish is farm raised anymore. Wouldn't surprise me if anchovies were...it just seems so much easier. You've already got an endless supply of fish, no need to go look for them and deal with weather and shit.

I do eat cheese, I just would rather not if I had the option. Same goes to fish. I'll have them occasionally for nutrition/flava, but I'd rather not eat either.

i love a simple grilled veggie panini on oatmeal wheat bread. consisting of grilled red bell pepper, portabello mushroom, zucchini, and onions all marinated in italian dressing before grilling. done up with a bit of goat cheese. thats grilled sandwich heaven to me.

sorry but uneducated guessing doesnt count as empirical evidence/ valid justification in my eyes.

sliced cherry tomatoes
fresh basil
a couple of kalamata olives

The best one I ever made was zucchini, eggplant and portabello all in one, but it was too big and filling to finish.
