Sorry if this has been done to death. I am reading it for school (gives away age) and I have to say that this book has really held my attention. It is the first book to actually have an emotional effect on me, when Remarque describes the condition of the Russian prisoners I actually became depressed. Usually when I read something like that I think "sucks for them." Anywho, sorry if this was incredibly stupid but I never post here (or anywhere) and I thought I should at least post about something worthwhile.
So, has anyone read this and what were your thoughts on the book?
All Quiet on the Western Front is my absolute favorite novel. Besides Carl Sagan's Contact, it is the only book to have ever shaped my world-view.
My favorite character was Katczinsky. Smart, resourceful, and an admirable leader (which shows why he's merely a platoon-level leader.).
Ah well, great novel!
Haven't read any of Remarque's other material, though, at least not yet.
