Materials needed:
-Vanilla Extract
-Measuring spoon
-Coca-cola Classic (or Purple Drink)
-Ice
-Round wine glass
Experiment:
I began this experiment by measuring a few drops of a teaspoon of McCormick's Pure Vanilla Extract (You know on the measuring spoons the 1/4 teaspoon measurment, like a few drops on the bottom of that....ok? I got pix.)

and then pouring it into the glass alone the sides.
A single ice cube, about this size:

...was then slid into the glass, along the sides, and ran across the pooled vanilla extract at the bottom (To release the aroma and such into the air surrounding the liquid.)
Then, about 3.4 ounces of Coca-cola was added to the wine glass held at a 45 degree angle. The liquid was then pushed against the sides of a glass (Spin the glass so the liquid forms a whirlpool within).
The liquid was then tasted, in a slow fashion I breathed the aroma, transferring to inhaling through my mouth, and at some point, tasting the liquid. This IMo provides the most accurate test of taste.
It tasted a bit different, but results were improved upon by adding about double the amount of Vanilla Extract previously used.

The previous tasting test was then repeated again. This time there was a noticeable difference. 5-10 drops of Absolut Vodka was then added on a whim, to enhance the gentle stimulation by the flavor and aroma.
Pretty good, but not as good as the real thing :D I just wanted to see if I could do it...anybody else try this? lol
Enjoy.
Nifty and not too dissimilar to a recently-closed local restaurant whose fountain contained a variety of carbonated beverages, and, off to the side, multiple flavoring extracts. Thus you could order strawberry Coca Cola, vanilla Pepsi, chocolate root beer, etc.
You should have used vanilla syrup or made up some vanilla simple syrup. I hope you enjoyed it.

Couldn't you just have simply stirred the vanilla into the Coke?
Why go to such lengths with the wine glass and pouring the vanilla extract in from "along the sides", etc.?
Or you could have just bought vanilla coke, there is such a thing, and its in grocery, has been for years around here.

"They say the recipe for Sprite is lemon and lime, but I tried to make it at home- there's more to it than that."
In Canada, we don't have anywhere near the variety of soda that's offered in the US. I don't think that's a bad thing, but some people might want to experiment with things to find something that tastes like their favourite drinks.

I live pretty close to you and I thought they stopped making vanilla coke. Like it was there years and years ago..went away...came back about 7 years ago...and then went away again.
Never liked it myself.
Ah just checked wikipedia and I guess it was discontinued in 2005...but now it's being brought back again. Meh.

We have Vanilla Coke Zero at our grocery store(s), but it doesn't taste like the original.

I was very high when I wrote this, in fact I edited out some really "too-stupid" parts before I put it here... And now I wonder why the fuck did I take a picture of the ice, of all things....
Plus, all I had to drink out of at that moment was a wine glass, and I suppose my imagination ran with it :D :o

Felt like seeing if I could make it.

I know this, Piles of Crack. I was just curious to see if I could produce a tasty result.

Honestly, it really hasn't been on my mind (I barely ever drink soda) but now that I think of it, I haven't really seen it around either...

They discontinued it in some regions.
Strange to say I can't seem to find vanilla Coke in most, if any of the local stores anymore.
